  • Switched the Hauteville decisions and events to be a bit more flexible about where in Italy they'll attempt to take a landed title. They'll always prefer Sicily, but Hauteville adventurers will take any title within Italy and Sardinia if Sicily county holders are too strong.

  • Hauteville rulers will no longer get the bonus to de jure lieges, in terms of whether or not they'll accept fealty. So there's far less chance that a victorious Hauteville in Sicily will suddenly swear fealty to the Byzantine Empire.

  • An HRE claimant who becomes a conqueror will now receive claims to any Carolingian kingdom-tier titles in Central Europe which currently have holders.

  • Rulers whose primary title is the Kingdom of Burgundy are now also considered HRE candidates.

  • Rurik no longer has the ability to become the Rurikid conqueror, if he lives long enough to get the chance. It has to be one of his heirs or descendants. He does still get the event troops at game start, however, and can use the AI war decisions.

  • A Scandinavian adventurer who settles in Normandy, but who did so after losing the war (or it ended in White Peace) will lose any existing claims they have.

  • A Scandinavian adventurer whose culture has invented onagers will now get a few regiments of onager to go with their regular invasion event troops.

  • If Norman culture has already invented mangonels when the Hautevilles invade Sicily, then they will have mangonels in their event troops rather than onagers.

  • Histmod conquerors (for Hauteville, HRE, and Rurikid) must now be 50 or less rather than 60 or less as before. Keeps them from dying a few years into their campaign.

  • The random death that can apply to Karlings won't affect a character who's either holding a kingdom title or is the heir for that title if the King of France or Aquitaine is next in line for it (to prevent France or Aquitaine from gobbling up all of the Carolingian Empire if deaths come too rapidly for the rulers).

  • Fixed the outlier where it was possible for two Scandinavian adventurers to attack Normandy at the same time.

  • The Karling story cycle is now applied to the proper character at the start of the game, meaning its effects will now continue past the first few years (previously, as soon as the character who received it died, the story would end – as it was not on a Karling – and the effects thus would end too soon).

  • If a Karling king of one of the Carolingian kingdoms dies and his heir is a child, there is a chance a powerful vassal who is sufficiently strong & bold/greedy could demand that the throne be turned over to them. This only occurs if there are more vassals unaligned/unfriendly towards the Karlings then aligned/friendly, and can only happen once per primary title. If this ever happens, the usurped titles will become feudal elective if they weren’t previously.

  • The two de Hautevilles who begin as adventurers will receive a story cycle that will prompt them to become more powerful quickly, and thus more likely to use their decision to invade a weak realm in Sicily should an appropriate one appear. This remains active for the first de Hauteville if they lose that initial war for Apulia.

  • The Karling story cycle now fires slightly less often but is much more likely to cause a random death or end a pregnancy than before. Child Karlings are now eligible for the random death if they have already been made a ruler.

  • The Scandinavian adventurer CB’s now only causes the adventurer to lose 500 gold on a loss/white peace if they still had that much once the war was over.

  • The decision to form the HRE now requires the ruler to not be at war. It will also now display an understandable tooltip for a player who needs to have a hook or a positive relationship with their religious head.

  • Reduced the minimum realm size for a HRE conqueror candidate from 25 to 15. Also made it so that a conqueror candidate doesn’t need to own three counties minimum if they are very bold.

  • If an AI candidate ruler is already eligible to form the HRE, they now won’t use the decisions to start a war to expand their realm or become a conqueror.

  • Fixed the decision for Normans to summon their bannermen so landless adventurers can actually use it and properly receive their troops.

  • Fixed the improper targeting of the story owner when passing on the Karling story cycle to an heir.

  • Added a new event series for the de Hauteville brothers (primarily William ‘Iron Arm’ de Hauteville and Robert ‘the Fox’ de Hauteville) to appear in the 11th Century in southern Italy, provided Norman culture has already appeared. William de Hauteville has a scripted event to attack Apulia through the Norman rebellion there, but otherwise they both use decisions to build up their forces and attack whenever they feel it worthwhile – chances that they end up somewhere other than Sicily are not small. Note that, if you’re using a save game where Norman culture has already appeared, this will not happen regardless of the game rule settings.

  • Game rules added to make the de Hauteville have random names & dynasty name, if you prefer the game not to be so predetermined, and also to have both brothers simply appear as landless adventurers without any scripted events or decisions to invade Sicily.

  • Landless Norman adventurers can now use the decision to summon bannermen (to slightly lesser effect).

  • The triggers for a character to be considered a candidate for HRE formation (which affects when and if they can use the HRE-specific subjugation interactions and casus bellis) has been relaxed slightly, and now ignores if the Empire of Francia has been formed (they can’t form the HRE while the Empire of Francia exists, but they should still act to consolidate in central Europe while they can).

  • Adjusted the Norwegian invasion of Orkney and the Shetland Islands so it likely happens a bit later and isn’t automatic.

  • The mod now takes advantage of the vanilla Conqueror system, currently used in three places: the best candidate for HRE formation (after 940), the best candidate for Russia formation (after 880), and the best de Hauteville candidate for Sicily formation (after they manage to gain a landed title). In all three cases, the Conquerors don’t use the standard vanilla war declaration system, instead using the mod CB’s specific to them. Once they’ve managed to form their particular goal, the Conqueror trait will disappear. They obey all other normal Conqueror rules, including game rule settings and losing the trait if they do too poorly.

  • Adjusted the text of the game rules so they all fit in the provided space.

Another quick change for the Ahistorical setting for the Salic Law game rule - the effects apply to any realm with Male Only realm law. In those realms, women still inherit claims to their parents' titles, regardless of the individual title law.
