Change notes for v2:
-I pulled the initial version of this scenario that I had posted to the Workshop because I had an ASL board that was incorrectly swapped when I built the map. This is a complete redo of the scenario.
-Had to decide between implementing gullies and streams with bridges. Because the map has a significant water obstacle on board 10, I decided to use the latter. In most cases the German infantry would not be using the gully for cover anyway.
-Removed a few small buildings to avoid map clutter and follow the Second Front designers’ scenario guidelines.
-Couldn’t find any wooden rowhouses, so I just used regular buildings.
-Original victory conditions called for the Germans to control all buildings within 3 hexes of the village’s central square to win. I simplified this a bit, placing three victory points in some of the larger buildings.
-The default scenario was a bit easy in tests, so I applied the US balance provision (one extra bazooka). A wise player won’t be getting the Wirbelwind too close to the action anyway because it’s open-topped.
-I set up the Germans in the woods, although the scenario rules would technically allow them to place their force next to the farmhouse in the middle of the map. However, that could allow them to come under American fire immediately. I thought it was more realistic to let them set up a bit further back and give the player more options on how to assault the village. This did not have a significant effect on the length of the game in tests, so I left it at seven turns.
