Okay people, our first attempt at 'river-boats' server-version...
Many thanks to Fluxmaster, as always, for figuring it out!
also my gratitude to the illustrous Hades who gave Fluxmaster the essential tip of what needed to be done. Flux solved it in a very different way, but still, Hades got us unstuck.

this version also contains some bug fixes that I am testing in some areas like removing the false desert landscapes in the distance, as well as a test of removing weather from a cave. If those work, then that will be the topic for the next version.

Redid the cave entrance of Lethes Deep. Can you find the Easter Egg?
Added a cave for the Deep Ones, those poor amphibians, so neglected by everyone, well, now they have a cave to party with themselves.
Added an NPC camp on one of the Isles in the North East (beached drakkar)
Some cosmetics
A couple more boats (only working in Single Player)

Speaking of the boats. We have learned that our approach of moving a boat along a spline is the wrong one. There will be replication issues (which is exactly what you all have seen, in the server version you cannot climb on the spline-boats (the ferries work) and they rarely move, while in Single Player they work fine) that cannot be solved. At least, a top notch modder told us.
Well - the good news - we have been told the method that WILL work - but now that needs to be worked out and implemented. Next version...

did you know that Charon, before he became a ferryman at the river Styx, used the traverse the Lethe?
So much that people have forgotten... But then, if you know what the Lethe stands for in mythology, it is no wonder.

Anway, Charon is here. He starts his trip at the Descent of Dagon. I took the trip... and it is so cool!

also, most servers are mentioning that they fall through the ships and that the ships are not moving, others mention that they start moving after a while, and THEN you can climb on them. In Single Player everything works fine. The technical term is that there seems to be a 'replication issue' (i.e. mismatch between where server says the boat is and the client). This release includes a different parameter setting affecting replication, which I can only test after releasing this version for a server. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

smoothed out the journey of the Phoenician trading vessel

new: added a third boat, a Nile boat without sail - starting point the underground harbor.

note: IF you use Devious Desires (awesome mod btw) you must load it BELOW ITN. I added a piece of clothing for my swamp roaming savage and that seems to affect the human skeleton. I do not understand how as I gave everything a custom name but it does seem to affect some DD functionality which gets fixed when DD is loaded below ITN.

1) The first real boats have arrived! Boats will be the final new content, which is why I made it version 2.0.0 (I will add a few more boats - please understand that having some boats traverse so far from the normal map that, if you take a ride on them, it reveals all kind of streaming issues - images of floating landscape) because you are far from where funcom ever intended us to go.
2) Plus the first half of a data structure clean up project to improve performance
3) Added Purge tables for the new areas

Several fixes:
- the ferries should only respond to being activated, not go on their own
- I hope the Moonspawn crash issue has been resolved (hard for me to test as I never got it to crash- but the logs said there was something wrong with an npc spawner and I found a weird one that I fixed)
- several other fixes - some in response to issues in the Sistermod of 'the Underdark of Acheron' / found and replaced more siptah textures that were disabled by funcom.

1.8.1 trying to fix some weird bugs at the ferry points. Weird as in everything in the devkit and single player looks normal. I hope it was a bad cook. Sorry for the inconvienence.

fixed the stygian raider ship - again
fixed the Kar Nag idol - and if you don't know what that is, visit Kar Nag!

This is the first release where I added boats - 5 locations where there is now a ferry system.
It is not where I want it to be, the boats don't turn around and instead boat backwards... I hope to fix that in the next release.
Still, I have always said that I would find a replacement for the Riverboats mod of which I am a great fan. It is coming!

btw, I bought ship models on the marketplace, and am $50 short for a nice Trireme. Anyone interested in sponsoring this?

I normally don't push out new versions that quickly, but the ship issue was basically blocking a server.

wow...

all known, non funcom bugs, have been fixed.
the non harvestable fiber foliage in DW? fixed
the floating grass at the place once known as Sepermeru harbor? fixed
all thanks to the amazing Fluxmaster who has forgotten more about mapmaking than I currently know.
Just so you know fixing the DW area meant moving stuff around, something about the game engine not knowing where that area exactly was - sounded very technical to me. Anyway, if the cliff under your house has shifted a bit... I am sorry, at least you can harvest now!
oh, and for good measure, I threw in some redwood trunks at both redwood forests. I hope nobody's base got interrupted.

The desert got a new cactus species sprouting. And the swamp got some mangroves. Oh, made it a bit less bright in the jungle.
some pop added, some minor cosmetic fixes.
Next I have to revisit some of my water-surfaces and then up to adding boats!

Now if someone can find me swarms of flying, stinging mosquitos that spread malaria, a monsoon storm and a system that allows your character to be a member of one of the factions so that you can visit their camps without being attacked but attacked everywhere else. And crocs that swim and attack you only IN the water. And gigantic meat eating tentacle plants. Then yeah... would get close to what could have been CE 2.0.
