Better Balanced Woodie has been updated to V1.0.1. The changes are as follows.

  • Woodie loses .75 log meter per axe swing. (From .33)

  • Beaver gains .5 log meter per gnaw. (From .33)

  • Logs restore 20 wood meter. (From 15.)

The intent of patch 1.0.1 is to make it easier to transform into a beaver. Here is a bit of math behind the update. Keep in mind that Lucy works 2x faster than a normal axe. (3X faster with Better Balanced Woodie.)

My initial intent was to make Woodie transform around 3x slower and from this chart we can see it takes significantly longer, perhaps too long to reach beaver form. Patch 1.0.1 aims to make it a bit easier to manage.The new rate (3x slower to vanilla) should make it much easier to get to beaver form. I also intended for using a flint/luxury axe to cause Woodie to transform faster. How did this effect them?

Using a flint or luxury axe was slightly better (4.5X slower to vanilla.) but still took too long to transform. The new rate (2x slower to vanilla.) should make it much easier to transform into a beaver.

Finally beavers gnaw gain was increased to .5 (From .33). How did this change effect him?

My original intent was to make it around 3x slower and this result was much closer than Woodie's drain. Since his human drain is much faster I decided to lessen the time he stays as a beaver slightly. Keep in mind this does not include consuming logs which has been increased to +20. (From 15) If it turns out the beaver form does not last long enough while chopping perhaps we could revert back to .33

Log changes

I was somewhat concerned with Woodie having trouble turning back into a human. I don't want to increase gnaw gain too much as it directly hurts logging which I do not want to do. I feel that it does take too long to turn into a human so I upped the log gain to +20. (From 15.) I was also concerned with the increase in log drain to .75 being too high potentially causing Woodie to transform too quickly. (Hurting his bonus to pig followers.) I feel the increase to +20 helps both of these issues, particularly in situations players might not have access to easy wood. (Especially the caves since the gnaw gain is so low.) I personally feel all these changes this patch has made do a better job of creating a "Better Balanced Woodie" than the previous version and hopefully you agree too.

Keep in mind none of these numbers are final and could be changed. I am much happier with these values now but they might need some minor tweaking. As always please leave your feedback as balance is an ongoing proccess.
