As the SLC navy expanded, the designers started drawing up plans for more specialist vessels.  One of the first of a many types of specialized vessels was the ‘Argo’ Class artillery cruiser.  Built around a powerful primary gun, the ‘Argo’ Class was designed to attack enemy ships from a distance, much like a massive sniper rifle.  
 
With it’s light armor and ability to turn on a dime, it’s the ideal vessel to use as a support ship.  Working with smaller corvettes and gunships, it can fire at enemies, cause mass amounts of damage, and letting the smaller vessels move in to finish the target off.  Despite not being able to fly in and atmosphere, with it’s powerful main gun to attack from long range, it’s the perfect ship to conduct large orbital strikes.  
 
However, due to its high maneuverability, the ‘Argo’ Class has very light armor.  If a ship or fighter manages to get to close to it, it can be quickly subdued and/or destroyed.
 
Upsides:
 
Perfect for attacks ships at a distance and for supporting corvettes.
 
Downsides:
 
Can be easily destroyed if an enemy ships or fighters gets too close to it.
