Description
Among the forests of southern Spain lies the beautiful palace known as Alhambra. Renovated during the last days of Moorish rule before the Reconquista, this castle has gained renown through the centuries as a marvel of architecture and engineering. Now, you have the chance to fill your own Alhambra with soaring towers, exotic arcades, open-air pavilions, and opulent seraglios with Alhambra: The Dice Game!

Based on the award-winning mechanics and fast-paced fun of the popular board game Alhambra, Alhambra: The Dice Game invites two to six players to struggle once more to purchase buildings, construct their palace, and claim victory by having the most points at the end of the game. Two unique variants exist within Alhambra: The Dice Game. The basic game uses dice and score tracks to determine who has built the most glorious Alhambra. The Alcazaba variant, on the other hand, requires a copy of Alhambra to play, and uses dice together with the building tiles from Alhambra to combine the games. Whichever way you play, Alhambra: The Dice Game offers an unparalleled experience for you and your friends.

Rolling for Supremacy

As in the board game version of Alhambra, Alhambra: The Dice Game challenges you to score the most points over the course of five rounds by filling your palace with the most beautiful buildings available.

On each of your turns, you take the eight dice in hand and roll them. Each side of a die corresponds to a different building type—pavilions, seraglios, arcades, chambers, gardens, or towers. In order to gain more of a building for your Alhambra, you must roll that building’s symbol on your dice. After you roll the dice, you can set aside any number of dice and reroll the others. You’re allowed to roll the dice up to three times, but after the third roll, you must choose one type of building and score its symbols from your dice by placing a marker stone on the column for that building.

To claim the rewards for a certain building type, you’ll need to have the highest position on the column, and to do that, you’ll need to obtain the greatest number of that building’s symbols in the fewest possible rolls. For instance, you may roll the dice at the beginning of your turn and notice that you have rolled three seraglios. If you want to pursue claiming seraglios for your Alhambra, you can set these three dice aside and roll the remaining five—receiving two more seraglios from your second roll! You set the two additional dice aside with your first three, and roll the three last dice again. Unfortunately, you roll no additional seraglios on this last roll. You now score your seraglios, placing your marker stone on the seraglio column to show that you rolled five seraglios in three rolls.

During the round, each player has a number of marker stones based on the number of players in the game. Players continue to roll dice and take turns until all players have placed all of their marker stones. Every round, you’ll have to decide if you want to spread your efforts across many buildings or focus your effort on a specific building type, expending your dice and marker stones to give you the best chance of claiming victory in that column.

At the end of the round, the two players whose marker stones are highest on each building’s column receive one of two rewards. You may advance your building stone two spaces along its track, which helps you establish a majority of that building and score victory points. Alternatively, you may advance your building stone by one space and take the bonus chip for the corresponding column. The highest player chooses which reward he or she wants, and the second-highest player takes the remaining reward.

The bonus chips you can seize are randomly assigned each round, and they confer powerful abilities as you hire architects and construct your palace. You may gain a chip that scores extra points every round, or you might take a chip that lets you play first during the next round. You might even gain an additional die that you can set to any side or push your opponents back in a building column! Choosing whether to push for the majority of a building or mitigate your advances to take a bonus chip is an important consideration in Alhambra: The Dice Game.

Finally, at the end of the first, third, and fifth rounds, points are scored for each category of building in your Alhambra. As in the board game, during the first scoring round, only the highest ranked player on each building track receives points for his buildings. In later rounds, however, second and third-placed players may also gain points for the buildings they include in their palaces. At the end of the fifth round, the player who has scored the most points and built the most beautiful Alhambra is the victor!

The Architecture of Kings

The Alhambra palace has lasted through the ages as a feat of architecture, art, and engineering. In Alhambra: The Dice Game, you have the chance to test your luck and accomplish your own feat of skill across two distinct game variants. Hire your builders, choose your strategy, and roll your dice! Only the greatest architect will claim victory.
