Defense Grid: The Board Game (Mission 1)

Description
UPDATE: The Physical Game is out! http://www.forgedbygeeks.com, I have a copy and I can only say amazing things about it. The quality is among the highest I've seen in any tabletop game, period. And it has been a lot of fun getting a recurring game going with friends.

---

This is a fully playable preview of the board game which has wrapped up on Kickstarter, Defense Grid: The Board Game. Build towers cooperatively with anywhere from 1-4 players as you attempt to defeat waves of enemies who are trying to steal your cores. This mission is fully scripted, controlling card dealing and creature movement.

The full game has more missions, and you level up your AI with each victory to handle more difficult challenges. This Workshop item only contains Mission 1.

How do you play?
Getting started is easy, as the notes on the table tell you how to get yourselves ready and the script will make sure you are all set up before you begin. After that, please take a look over the rules PDF[1drv.ms] (non-finalized version) for detailed rules. There is also a full rundown of the rules in the Notebook, in game.

But to summarize, you start each round by reloading your towers and drawing up to your hand limit. You then work with your teammates to purchase towers, buff or fire them. Once you can make no further moves, the aliens move forward down the path. If they reach your cores, they grab one and start to head off the map. You earn more resources either by selling cards from your hand or destroying aliens.

How do I get more?
Mission 1 is, currently, the only one coming to Tabletop Simulator (at least scripted by me). If you want more, you are going to have to support the Kickstarter! I know it has passed for now, but once the game comes out we will hopefully see more. The game is slated to come out sometime around Dec 2017 or the first few months of 2018.

This is a really nice implementation of the game, fully scripted. It spawns and moves enemies, deals cards, etc. It's too bad it only includes the first mission. Very well done.

I sent an email to forgedbygeeks. I was just exploring tower defense games today on BGG, and I came across this one. I am extremely interested in buying it. However, the retail price on the website is a little too much for me. I also noticed that you were running a 10% off promotion through BGG, and it looks like I was only a couple of days late. Is there a way you can still activate that promotion, or at least throw in some Kickstarter items? I would purchase it on the spot if either of those options are available.

Sorry for the delay, but I've gotten an answer. For the release, the current goal is between Dec of this year and Feb 2018. There will be a link to pre-order on their Kickstarter page when it becomes available. Expect that link to be available in the next month or two!

Any news on the release status of this game?

You apply the damage yourself. There are buttons on the figurines. You move the resource marker, decide who you are shooting with what guns and which effects, etc. The script just handles giving you cards and moving the pieces/cores between each round.

So how do the cards work? I place the turrets and put the corresponding card in the discard pile then the aliens just cruise on by without taking damage.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The error was caused by a change to the scripting zones. They were a little up in the air, which did not used to be an issue, but they tightened up their detection radius recently and that caused this error. It couldn't see the cards in the discard pile.

This has been fixed in two ways. One, I lowered those scripting zones which should remove the issue. Second, I also added a check for the deck there, so if it doesn't find one it will just spam you with messages until you put a deck into the discard area haha. So no more game-breaking, I believe.

First off, this is WONDERFUL! Thank you very much for your hard work!

While trying this out tonight to prep for a review of the game I got stopped dead in my tracks on wave 3 because there was a problem with the enemy movement. I managed to grab a screenshot and if you check the chat box you can see that it mentions the error.

As I'm not a scriptor I hope this is sufficient enough data so you can fix it.

Thank you again and I can't wait to give it another try tomorrow evening!

For some reason I didn't get notifications of these comments. WHOOPS! Well, I've fixed the giant button issue. There was a small change to the way the game handles scripting zones which was the culprit. It is back to normal now.
