Expedition Base Set was the first set to introduce cards compatible for use with the (now defunct) Nintendo e-Reader peripheral, an add-on for the Game Boy Advance. By scanning the cards with the e-Reader, players could view PokeDex entries for their cards, play minigames, and even use special attacks. Because of the requirement of the Dot Code technology for the e-Reader features, Expedition cards were the first to have a layout significantly different than previous sets.

These cards are for the nostalgic TCG player, as they were originally produced by Wizards of the Coast.
