It has to be welded from the projector to find it in the easy start worlds.

I believe it's designed to transport ground vehicles, and in particular the "scuttler" also from the "Easy Start" bases and located nearby. I found that, after hovering the dropship over the scuttler and aligning them with the connectors adjacent, I could latch on to the scuttler with the elevated landing gear, and fly off with it. (Maybe this is obvious to more experienced players.)
