This also takes place after Half Life 2: Episode 2. Lambda resistence fighters from Russia, Japan, and the western coasts of Canada invaded the Combine occupied Aleutian islands weeks after the Citadel in eastern europe was destroyed in Half Life 2. A month later they liberated Anchorage, but without suffering serious casualities. Their next goal is to liberate San Fransico and the American West coast, where the North American Citadel is. As they prepare defenses for another Combine invasion, and wouldn't you know it; the Combine send a giant spaceship floating over Alaska to recapture the northern Pacific. The Lambda fighters send over half of their aircraft to take the down the Combine ship.
