Battleships (BB)
A BB is a large vessel. They cannot turn very well and are slow to accelerate/decllerate. A normal BB has a top speed of about ~28kn. A BB has thick armour wich stops most 6 guns but struggles with anything above that. A battleship can take a ton of punishment before being sunk. Battleships have decent AA. Battleships have a lot of big guns. The number of guns ranges from 8-10. The guns are anywhere from 14-16 (inches). These guns are capable of sinking most ships in a few turns if the shots are aimed well. A BB also secondairy guns. These are much smaller guns. They are typically 8+ secondaires. They are small guns, being around about 5 inches. BB's are expensive. They cost from 48,000 renown to 85,000.Due to their abillity to dish out damage, and to recieve it BB's are high value targets. Enemy's will most likely aim for your BB(s).

Examples of Battleships:

Usa: North Carolina
United kingdom: Queen Elizibeth, Revenge, Nelson, King george V, Lion
Germany: Scharnhorst, Bismark, Hutten

The Scharnhorse is an exception to the battleship class. It has all of battleship charecteristics except for the guns. Realisticly it was a pocket battleship, so it only has 11inch guns.

Example of the damage a BB can sustain
Battlecruisers (BC)
A BC is similar to a Battleship. It is a little bit smaller. They are faster than Battleships, having a typical topspeed of 32knots. A battlecruiser can also turn sharper than a Battleship. This makes them better at dodging torpedoes, hunting down prey, and broadsiding quicker. This extra mobility comes at a cost. A BC has worse armour than a BB. Significantly worse. BC's cannot take punishment very well. Cruisers can sink you in short time if they have good aim. Fortunetly however, Battlecruisers get the same guns as Battleships. (15-14inch). Battle cruisers also get the same secondairies as Battleships, they just typicly have less of them. BC Anti aircraft is comprable to Battleship Anti aircraft. Battlecruisers are cheaper than Battleships, but are still expensive. They cost from 48,000 renown to 70,000. Overall BC's are good alround support ships. But should only be used as support ships because they can't take shots.

Examples of Battlecruisers being Hood and Renown(the ship not currencey)

BC Renown supporting a fleet. I included this screenshot because it shows how Battlecruisers should be used. The BB will take the shots while the BC can sit back and rlax, and shoot stuff.
Aircraft carriers (CV)
Air craft carriers are a unique class. As the name emplies, they have planes as the main weapon instead of big guns. It takes 3 turns to use your first air strike. The second one and onward can be used after the first one. As a carrier you have access to Bombers and fighters. Fighters can be used to carry bombs, though not as much as a bobmer, or to helps shootdown enemy airstrikes. Bombers can carry bombs, torpedoes, and depth charges. I believe some can carry rockets too( so can fighters). Carriers have good AA protection. A carrier is very weak when it comes to taking shots. They are so weak that destroyers can wreck them with their guns. Carriers are fast. Having a topspeed of 30kn. However CV's are rather bad at turning. CV's are moderatly priced, coming in at 45,000 and 54,000 renown. Carriers are extremly high value targets. Enemies will target CV's 9/10 times. Overall CV's are great ships. They can deal out so much damage so quickly and are great multi taskers. Being capable Capital ship slayers, Sub hunters, and cruiser killers.

Examples of Carriers being the Glorious and the Illustrious.

Escort Carriers (CVE)
An escort carrier is like a tiny CV. They can only use 4 planes, where as a normal carrier can use 8. The planes can be torpedo, bomb, depth charge, and rocket. This means that Escort Carriers can be a nusense to enemy ships, and great little sub hunters. *note a CVE has no guns* CVE's are very slow. Having a 17kn top speed. They turn very slowly as well. They have terrible armour. A Cve is rather cheap coming in at 19,000 renown. A Cve has addequit Anti air. A Cve is a high value target. More high value than a cruiser, destroyer, and merhant. Overall CVE's are great pack hunters. Groups of them of 4 or more can cause serious damage to capital ships, and they can wreck submarines and smaller ships.

Examples of Escort carriers are the Bogue and Attacker.

The power of a CVE wolfpack.

Doing that felt so wrong.
Heavy cruisers (CA)
A Heavy cruiser is like a tiny Battleship. CA's armour is adequait for stopping 6 inch HE shells and under but is quite bad againt Ap shells. CA's can do damage though. They all have 8 inch guns, with one exception. This means that AP can pen battleships. Some CA's get weak secondairies. AA is decent, but not as good as BB's. CA's get torpedoes but these are generally only for very close quarters combat. Heavy cruisers are fast and mobile. Having a ~31kn speed they can move.
They can turn quite well wich means they can dodge torpedoes with relative ease. Heavy cruisers are Moderatly priced. They cost between 28,000 to 32,000 renown. HEavy cruisers overall are good all round ships. They have good guns, good mobility, good AA, and are cost effective.

Examples of Ca's
Britain: Exeter, County
Germany: Lutzow, Admiral hipper

The Lutzow is a rather odd ship. It is (historicly) a pocket battleship just like the scharnhorse. This means that it has 11 inch guns opposed ot the usual 8. It also has more armour than a tipical cruiser and is less mobile.

The single mission "battle of river platte" is a good example of heavy cruisers and how they operate.

Screenshot showing how the lutzow is more of a battleship than a cruiser.
Light cruisers (CL)
A light cruiser is similar to a heavy cruiser but has smaller guns and worse armour. The armour is terrible and isnt even there. Light cruisers are durable agaisnt Destroyer fire but nothing else. A CL has 6 inch guns. Typicly thye have a lot of them. They also get torpedoes. However these should only be used as a last resort. AA is good enough to act as a screen for larger ships, but is inaddiquet to defend itself. CL's are very fast. Havng a speed of ~32kn. They can turn about as good as a CA, wich is good. CL's are around 20,000 renown. IN MY opinion They are not worth that. Overall CL's make good AA screens, great destroyer hunters, and good HE spammers.

Examples of CL's
Britain: Leander, Sheffield, Dido, Fiji
Germany: liepzig, konigsberg

Destroyers (DD)
Destroyers are very small ships. Small, but mighty. Destroyers are The fastest ship type in the game. They have a top speed of 34-36kn. Destroyers are extremely nimble. A destroyer can do a 90 degree turn and then some. Destroyers also accelerate and decelerate very quickly. Destroyers are very fragile. And I mean very very very fragile. 1 hit from an 8 inch gun is enough to sink a destroyer, without an ammo rack or anything of that sorts. Destroyers can use smoke screens. Oh yeah looking back on this all of the ships in this guide can use smoke. Anyways, using smoke makes destroyers very hard ot hit for the ai. You can also use the Smoke to protect friendly ships like carriers. Destroyers get very weak guns. They are only good for setting fires on big ships. Against other destroyers the guns are alright. Destroyers get torpedoes, and lots of them. Destroyers usually get 4, 8, or 10 torpedoes. These are good for sinking giant stupid battleships. DD's get depthcharges as well. These are great for sinking submarines. Destroyers are one of the few thigns that can sink subs so they are a neccesity for all fleets when playing as the british. Destroyers are dirt cheap. The cost 4,500~. They can be less than that or more than that. Destroyers are just good at everything.

Destroyers arent really useful as the germans.

A good tactic when you are fighting a battleship is to use your smoke to get really close to him, then torp him in the face, works 1/10 times.

Corvettes (DC)
Only britain has access to these. Probably because Germany figured out how bad they where and decided not to use them. You know your sisters rich boyfriend's yacht? A corvette is that yacht with a gun on it. It also has depthcharges, but you cant use them as the sub will sink you before you use them. Corvettes are extremely small. The yacht comparison isnt a joke. They are super slow with a speed of 16kn. This means going flank speed they are slower than some merchant ships. This means that they are uselss for hunting subs. That being the only reason you would use them. Corvettes have 1 4 inch gun. This is uselss. They do not get torpedoes. I think they have 1 or 2 machine guns on them for AA. Corvettes are extremely fragile. 2 AP shells froma destroyer can sink a DC, and DD's arent known for having good guns. Corvettes are cheap though. Costing 1,000 renown. Overall DC's are terrible ships. You should never buy one.

Fun fact: If you are playign as the germans and you see britian is using corvettes, that means britain is on its last legs.

Examples of Corvettes being Temptress and Abelia.

Auxillery Cruisers (HK)
Auxillery Cruisers are only avaible to the germans. An Auxillery Cruiser is a merchant ship with weapons. They have 6 inch guns, and lots of them. They can have 7-8 guns. This means that they can easily win over a destroyer in a gunfight. HK's also get torpedoes. Normally I would say that they would be uselss on a slow ship like an HK but this one has a catch. Auxillery cruisers spawn super close to the enemy. This emans they can sue there torpedoes right away. An Auxillery cruiser has the same Mobility, toughness, and look of a merchant. A HK costs 8,000 renown. Overall I think that Auxillery cruisers are meh. They can have there moments but overall they are pretty bad.

The single battle "Kormoran vs sydney" is a good example of how HK's work.

Examples of HK's being Kormoran and Pinguin.

Submarines (SS)
Submarines are unique to every other ship in the game. They can go underwater! I mean other ships can do that to but Subs can do it while they are still alive. Submarines can sue torpedoes when they are underwater (and above water). Submarines can fire 4-6 torpedoes at a time. SUbs are great in wolfpacks as they can put so many toprs in the water that they become impossible to dodge. They spawn close to the enemy, so you can use these torpedoes to great effect. Subs are slow, going about 9kn underwater. On the surface they are much faster going at 18kn. On the surface subs get a small deck gun. This is good for sinking merchant ships when you dont want to use your torpedoes. Subs also get AA wepaons. They have 1 machine gun wich is almost uselss. Subs are very fragile. Subs are very cheap, costing 2,600 renown or less. Overall Subs are a neccesity to have as the Germans.

The type 21 ubaots arent really included in the section above. They differ from other subs. They are like super subs. They go faster, have more torpedoes, they are bigger, and more expensive.

Examples of subs being:
UK: Triton
GERMANY: type VII, type IX, Type XXI

Write your own guide, Captain Gringo. Sounds like it would be pretty good.

I have been playing this game since release on IOS (and on PC since last year), and played Pacific Fleet for years before. Personally, i feel that this guide does a fairly decent job of describing the ship types. However, it is a bit lazily done, and has many, many details left out (some of them being pretty important, like the Type XXI Class's quick torp reload). I've got almost a hundred lines of notes in the IOS notes app on stuff that really ought to be in here. Would post for author to add but based on them saying they were "too lazy" to change the title i doubt they'de actually add anything.

Scharnhorst was a BC, straight up. Other than that I see no errors.

Absolute rubbish, unreadable and pointless!
Lord Haart 5 Jan, 2020 @ 12:40pm
Awful English, awful syntax, typos galore, and grammar that is beyond all comprehension.

Epic fail.

how the hell is this a guide? My 8 year old can write better than this.
Oemoemoepoep 1 Jan, 2019 @ 4:04pm
ya...
Literally no info unless you have absolutely no naval knowledge and have never started the game (as gun caliber, price and so on is listed ingame).

Putting that aside there are spelling errors (it's Scharnhorst, not Sharnhorse and Leipzig instead of liepzig, submarines can sue torpedoes ?). And the writing is "english as foreign language 1st year". Like "Subs are very fragile. Subs are very cheap, ... Overall subs are ...".

It isn't even a guide. The ingame tutorials offer way more information per tutorial mission than this whole text.

I agree the title is misleading; I also thought this was a guide about the 'classes'.

Also, I agree that the corvette is not well modeled in the game and does not pose a credible threat to the submariner; too bad because those little ships worked that North Atlantic pretty hard and made a difference.
