@keylocke Yes , infact Perenial crops is one of the recommended mods :
(from starbound forum) :

Recommended Complimentary Mods - You don't NEED them, but they make farming even better :)
Perennial Crops - Crops won't break when harvested (bot harvesting efficiency overrides somewhat)
Compact Crops - Crops take up less horizontal space
More Saplings - All trees drop saplings when harvested

How.... do you limit them on where they can plant.... seems even with walls they just seemd to climb over em and continue.

dr doorknob: if you want to use miners you do not need this mod
this is mostly for server admins to disable minerbots, as they are destructive
or for people that don't want to have miners
