M3 MT Lee

A stopgap tank developed to replace the M2 MT after the US Army realized how outdated that vehicle was. A 75mm gun was desired for the new tank, but american industry was incapable of producing a turret capable of carrying such a gun at the time. As a result, while the M4 MT was in development, the M3 was devised, based on an enlarged M2 hull, with the 75mm cannon mounted on a sponsoon on the right side of the vehicle. Due to the 37mm guns being the preferred anti-tank weapons of the US Army, a turret mounting a 37mm gun was installed, topped off by a small cupola turret with a machine gun for anti-aircraft duties. The resulting vehicle was powerful at the time of it's introduction, but was very quickly made obsolete was the war continued. The combination of an ankward gun mount, a high crew requirement and a very tall sillouette made the M3 MT less than desirable. As more M4 MT's were made available, the M3 was phased out of combat, though it still managed to participate in a number of theathers.

I cannot confirm nor deny that, I only know it was made like that because they could not make the turret they wanted at the time.

I thought they took some inspiration from the B1 for this?
