Let's be honest. Companion Cube doesn't really care about you. He's ignorant and selfish, and the only reason he spent his time with you was the fact that his other, "real" friends abandoned him because of his social incapabilites. Sphere Buddy is different. Will you help him? Of course you will!

The other way to activate the exit from that room is activated by a pedestal button behind that exit. Hence there is no way to get past the fizzler. Morvan, your test chamber is a BAG OF SHITE

Is it nice to break people's levels? Probably not, but it's FUN!

Portaled to the pit in the middle and caught the sphere before it fell into the pit, used portal bump glitch to get into the sphere button room, placed sphere, done.

Quite a few places were you can get stuck if you accidentally not do something. I am now stuck in the room where you have a laser and a reflection cube. I can point the laser to the receiver, but no way to come out. It triggers one of the two required locks for the door near me. If I get through the fizzler, I don't have the tools to get out of there alive.
