Ecco the Dolphin (Japanese)

Official Japanese version of Ecco 1 with checkpoints and other fixes.

Ecco 1 is considered a very difficult game. When the original version was prepared for release in Japan, the game was revised. Several bugs were fixed, and the game was made quite a bit easier. And the in-game messages were translated to Japanese, of course.

- Fixes certain bugs and glitches (speedrunners, up your game!)
- At least one hint message was improved, helping the player.
- Some barrier glyphs act as checkpoints now, so you don't have to replay a level from the beginning after dying.
- Fewer enemies.
- Enemies don't respawn by default (making rescuing the lost dolphins in "The Lagoon" quite pointless, because the reward for that is the anti-respawn ability).
- Dying in the final level doesn't send you back to the infernal penultimate level anymore.
- There are two new levels (but they aren't that good): "Open Ocean 2" and "The Stomach" (the latter involves the final level, enough said).
- There's an undocumented and broken "easy mode", accessed by entering "EASY...." as password. It skips several levels, shortening the game, but it doesn't have an end (the last level gets repeated over and over - because they took this feature from the Sega/Mega CD version and forgot to correct the level numbers)!
