Beyond Chess

Beyond Chess is a chess variant that uses a modular gameboard that actually shifts during play. Rather than playing on an 8×8 grid, the game is played on 64 movable squares.

Players can move pieces as well as game squares, causing an ever changing landscape of movement possibilities. Furthermore, it is possible to entirely isolate an opponent's playing piece, thus rendering it immobile.

With the exception of the first move by white where only a piece is moved, players move one piece followed by a 'tile' move thus changeing the structure of the board itself. Tiles can go one square in any orthoganol providing the corners still maintain contact with at least one other tile (ie no islands),

The only extra rule being the ability to move a pawn and the tile it is sitting upon one space forward in one move, this is counted as both a board and a piece move.

Thanks to David Crocket in 2006, for having this great idea, it is such a shame that it seems to have disappeared completely.
