The Quest For The Holy Grail

Description
The Quest for the Holy Grail :
++++++++++++++++++++++

This original scenario for Age Of Empires 2 of my creation is inpired by the arthurian legend (literature and films).
It's a kind of role playing game type of scenario with a lot of micro-management and tactical possibilities, riddles and events (triggers) for single player only.

You begin with King Arthur but you can rally other heroes to fulfill the quest, and develop your strength and abilities by accomplishing a lot of secondary missions.

Settings :
Single player game with original game, original AI, normal visibility (or you will spoil all surprise) and locked teams (Civs, techs and diplomacy will be automatically seted by the scenario).

There are some references from "Perceval, the story of the Grail" ("Perceval, ou le roman du Graal") by Chrétien de Troyes, the first written "roman" ("novel" in French: fictional written story in prose) in history, and book about the arthurian legend, some continuations, the film "Excalibur" by John Boorman and Rospo Pallenberg, "Monty Python and the holy Grail", "Kaamelott", a French television series by Alexandre Astier, and also French medieval Breton and Angevin (my region) architecture, which inspired some locations of the Legend of Arthur, king of all Britons, in fact Celts (west of France (Britanny), Anjou, Normandy and Britain essentially (like Tintagel castle, considered as birthplace of Arthur, a magnificent unique natural stronghold on the coast with cliffs, which insipired the design of my fantasy Camelot castle here), historians are not agreed besides, the origin of the legend is probably historically while the Roman Empire and without any fantasy, christianity and other medieval details, just Byzantine cataphracts (hence "the knights ("chevaliers" in French=horse rider) of the round table") sent from the far east of the empire (Sarmatians, Scythians from Crimea which their symbol on shield was a dragon surrounding a pearl, like the Black Sea surrounds Crimea, only Slavic land with with hot and sweet climate (so with wine and all fruits possible), and we know also that the dragon was Uther symbol nicknamed "Pendragon", father of Arthur and first king of all Britain unifying all the celtic tribes in Great Britain or elsewhere like Britanny (in actual France) or Ireland) to dominate the barbarians outside Adrian's Wall, (pictes, scots, saxons, vikings, etc.) probably).
The real Grail (the "bowl" that received the blood of the crucified Christ) is also mentioned to be brought from middle east while the crusades by the French Knight Templars (they pretend it) hence the fictional story depicted by Steven Spielberg and written by Georges Lucas: "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade".

Carpe diem!

rakovsky: is the myth of lonely knight, testing his value and to seek the grail efficiently you must not be in group but sparse (and I advise to do it even when you gain more heroes: there are a lot coming by fullfilling missions or just encountering by scouting the land). You choose the pop you want depending the dificulty you want but normaly is just regular 75 for aoe2 first scenarios. Anyway they are limited well by buildings, don't worry. Ennemies dont have villagers to build more houses (you don't want 200 knights or archers (=instant kill) on Arthur no?). In that regard, the enemies always grow in number when you go deeper in the land: it is progressive like a role playing game. Some tricks block enemies to group too much (dont use recent ai but original).

What population should you pick? 200?
I haven't read the various Arthurian legends. I don't understand why Arthur would go alone instead of joining his knights.

New update (version 5):
I boosted attack and HP of ferocious animals to make them more dangerous, even for heroes (now, when in band, they can kill a hero, even Arthur, making the game more chalenging).
Now you can no more cheat with Bors as vil to build by collect and cut wood to go out.
I changed some names (like Merlin instead of monk) and added some dialogs and views changed here and there and an accursed tower in the ruins of the spectre.
Merlin got also +100 HP until he carries the relic (which makes him back to a normal monk).

I didn't remember that there is also a ram, a scorpion and an engineer (bombard cannon) to obtain.
Good luck (not easy even for me but excellent and progressive micro management training and understanding)!
You can have pretty all tech at the end improving all heroes fully. The final riddle is not so easy to understand.

I said it: Morgan's fortress (it's behind Mordred Fortress, so if you didn't go in, you can't have found him).
Did you find the trebuchet and Perceval now?

I did not understand where it was Merlin
