2.2.0 Grindy-(Beginner/Expert)'s Guide to Beat Overture
By Ender of Games
Some people seem to think Overture takes too much grinding. Yet you could beat the game without grinding at all, and the devs don't seem to want to make grinding make too much of a difference. So if you want to beat the game, and you want to have some fun, and you are ok with some grinding, this is how you do it- for v2.2.0 at least.

If you are brand new to overture
The first thing you may have noticed is your four already unlocked characters... or classes, whatever you will call them. Depending on when there are updates, you may not like some of these, while you will love some others. They are all very different. If you want to know which ones are best to beat the game with, it all still depends on who you ask. For the sake of this guide, and unlocking a decent amount of things, first, I recommend you start by unlocking the Duelist, under Rogue.

Each new character takes 2000 gold to unlock. The only other thing you can do with the gold is to increase the attack damage done by that character; this upgrade costs 500 to start, and 500 additionally each time, no maximum, and increases attack damage by 5. Like I said in the header, the tiers (increased attack damage) aren't completely necessary, so you might as well wait until you have unlocked every character (2000 isn't that much) and mess around until you decide whom will lead the fight. Then upgrading that character will make your journey easier.
Grindy get Gold Method
To start, the sword and essence items (only those two of the five available items, for some reason) can give you a passive bonus of some sort. If you are gold hunting, the extra damage (or mana regen for essence) usually isn't important, so look for a "x% chance to drop additional gold on hit" bonus for each. On the first level, you won't have very high percentages, nor other bonuses from items, but this is fine as their bonus is definitely good enough.

Note: You will find some items that say a similar thing, but ends with "on kill" instead of "on hit". You can press "c" to pause and read your stats, including all of the whatsit about your current items. While these will do while attempting to find the right items, they just don't do as much, so with the comparable percentages the game gives out, "on hit" will always score you more gold/exp/skeletons, or whatever the bonus is giving out.

Next, and here is the trick that might not last after v2.2.0: when you are mostly done with the floor, and you don't think it is very efficient (or fun, hunting down every last thing) press "c" to pause the game, then press "q" to save and quit. This will bring you very quickly back to the opening screen, so kudos to the devs for not making us wait. Click once, then select "continue", definitely not "new run", and you will be back on the same floor, with the same items, with the same level.... but all of the monsters are back to kill! (Note: It won't actually be the same floor, but it will still be numbered the same. I haven't really noticed a huge difference in the environments, though)

This helps you keep your current items, making sure that you have the most gold-giving capacity when you hunt down rather easy monsters, and it doesn't get old nearly as quickly.
Becoming a Little More Efficient
The reason I suggest the duelist is his alternative ability: A large explosion. this is already amazingly easy to use, but while not fantastic against bosses, it works great (2 hits?) on the slime that blocks the stairs. That same slime drops a ton of gold and three items.

Other than grabbing chests on sight, (you won't keep NPCs on restart, so don't worry about saving those boxes, use them to beat the slime) I search for the slime, defeat said slime, and restart the game again; Defeating enemies on the way there when possible, grabbing these chests, killing super slimes, and you will have all of the unlocks in no time.
It's a Trap!!!
There are two types of traps in this game... although arguably only one type of trap.

The red circles on the floor will tell you when you step on them, saying that you have triggered a trap. And I am here to warn you now, these are useless!!! The skeletons that come from these traps do not drop gold, do not give experience, do not drop items, and they do not trigger the passive abilities on your items. Sure, sometimes you step on them on accident, but there is no purpose in grinding them, because they do not matter.

The other "trap", which makes the same noise, but does not exclaim, "It's a trap!" (That's not actually what they say, but still...) are the tombstones. These are harder than the red circles, in that they add more skeletons as well as blue death flames, but they are worthwhile: All of the enemies spawned from here do give out gold, experience, items (at random), and passive bonuses.

Also, you almost always hit the tombstones on accident from a distance. This means you won't be in the middle of the mess, so there's that, which is nice.
Beating the Game: Grindy Way
So now, you want to actually beat the game. While this might be easier in a time far from now, it might also be harder. Some would even recommend not bothering, because this is the least fun part of this game. But hey, you gotta get those four achievements, correct?

Well, what we are going to do is similar to the Gold Getting Guide (Or triple G, as I call it). Some people beat the game getting close to level 20, which has a good, albeit minor increase to HP, MP, and attack (and defence? I have heard leveling also improves defence, but I have no proof). However, if you get two "x% additional exp tome drop on hit" items, you will easily get to 20 before leaving 1-1.

After level 30, I think 1-1 won't get you anywhere, so you should move on. If, on the other hand, you are ok with grinding, moving on to 1-2 or 1-3 and continuing this method does work. As you continue forward, even by one floor, you should also make sure you find better items.

For armour, shields, and magic rings, number is always better. For swords and essences, the game will show the item worse if their numerical value is the same. If you aren't in a rush, you should pick them up and check; sometimes the only difference between the weapon you have and the weapon on the ground is just a 5% higher chance on its passive ability.
Choosing a Character
Well, if you are mostly just in it for the achievements, you only need to beat the game four times. However, as you move left to right, you will probably find it harder each time.

If you search online to find which characters are best, remember that they change between game updates. Some say Wizard is best mage, and that Priestess is best shaman... but I find that both of these are... well, crap.

So, for v2.2.0, here are my personal recommendations:

Soldier: All of the warriors have heightened defense, so this will be the easiest way to win, regardless. Soldier was my first, though I was probably equally happy with Knight and Barbarian. For some of the Warriors I find they don't start with very high damage, so when you choose one you should put +100 or so attack into him.

Duelist or Trickster: Both of these are similar, but I find that Trickster's secondary attack doesn't do enough damage to groups. However, you may find that Duelist's secondary seems to have a recharge time, so even when you are full of mana, it can't always use it. Trickster's and Duelist's main attack also slightly vary, Trickster's hits at cursor (immediately, too) while Duelist's is long range, and missing will often just hit another enemy.

All of the Rogues get a speed bonus, so you will find it easy to avoid projectiles.

Arsonist: I put a ton of tiers into him a long time ago. Many others recommend Necromancer, but I need to know more before I personally recommend it. Mages get a bonus to mana regeneration, which compared to defense is lame, and compared to speed is lame... look, it just doesn't matter. That's the problem.

Anyways, Arsonist I like for having a good, medium range, multiple enemy hitting main attack, and secondaries are always best when they are AoE attacks.

Druid: The only class that currently has a Steam guide (V-day 2016, for reference). Druid is easy to like, his alt attack changes his form from an awesome, high defense melee wolf to a long range, magic-missile shooting jedi. Also, he has two ghost pets that do work for him. What's not to like? At this point he seems to be leagues in front of the other shamans, because the shamans with AoE just don't seem to do enough damage.

Also, when you change to a wolf you get a speed boost. Which is awesome.

...anyways, don't just copy my guide, because I would cry. Everytiem-
Also I would set your house on fire. And then I would have to apologize, which would take quite a while to do.

Also, even if it is frustrating sometimes, thanks for making this game.

I just don't find the purpose of playing such a game solely for achievements.
Grinding in loops at same stage beats the purpose of its whole difficulty.

You or anyone else are free to do as they please with single player games, but one must question himself why even bother in the first place if resorting to such methods.

Supposedly, but the game is very bullet hell, and not as much RPG as it first appears. You don't have to abuse the glitches... I just prefer grinding to messing up on floor 8.

No wonder I couldn't find any complete run on YT with guides like these.
Is there anyone who beat the game without abusing glitches?
