Introduction
Welcome to the achievement guide for Chainsaw Warrior: Lords of the Night!

The purpose of this guide is to give a clear and concise overview of the requirements for earning all 25 achievements in the game and reaching that perfect 100% completion.

Overview

Chainsaw Warrior: Lords of the Night is the sequel to Chainsaw Warrior and maintains much of the gameplay of the original while adding a couple of new mechanics and improving on the overall presentation of its predecessor. Notably, the menus and UI are much better compared to the first game and the character creation is more streamlined.

Unlike the first game, Chainsaw Warrior: Lords of the Night does not have the tedious "kill 2000 enemies" achievement, so it should only take about 10 hours to get 100% completion. One full playthrough should take about 30 minutes and you can always use saves to help you with any tricky achievements.

Gameplay

While core gameplay and even many of the weapons and items remain the same, there are a few changes compared to the original Chainsaw Warrior.
  • Three decks of 25-30 cards instead of two decks of 50+ cards.
  • New cards: Airdrops (replacing Dumps from the first game), allowing you to restock and and replace your Laser without having to escape and restart the entire deck.
  • Chainsaw is now the default starting weapon and can be replaced with unlockable variants.
  • You can now move out of melee range in combat to take additional shots.
  • There's a random guardian (mini-boss) at the end of the first two decks.
  • Some weapons (like the Flamethrower) now have the ability to hit all attacking enemies at once.
  • Some enemies are armored, giving them a chance to negate the damage (much like the Body Armor item from the first game). Certain weapons have armor-piercing attacks to counter this.
There are also a few smaller changes, such as reworking the character abilities and adding Blessings (bonus abilities), as well as introducing several new weapons and items. However, if you've already played the first game, everything should be easy to grasp.

With all that out of the way, let's begin!
Achievements (part 1)
Welcome to Die!
Lose a game.

Make Your Time
Lose 100 games.

Earned by dying a lot. Other failure states work too (running out of time, etc). The quickest method of racking up deaths would be to Wait until the timer gets down to the last round, save the game, and click Wait again to run out the timer. Or just equip the Implosion Vest when creating your character and blow yourself up. Then just load the save and repeat as much as needed.

It Gets Worse Here Everyday
Die in the jungle.

The Jungle is the first area (deck) of the game. It's not uncommon to die early on, especially on the harder difficulties. Again, you can always just use the Implosion Vest if needed.

Normal
Beat the game on 'Normal'.

Hard
Beat the game on 'Hard'.

Masochist
Beat the game on 'Classic'.

In terms of gameplay, all the difficulties are largely the same, with three notable exceptions:
  • Your character's starting stats are determined by a hidden dice roll, which will likely be worse on higher difficulties. For example, your Hand-to-Hand combat skill is determined by rolling 3D6, picking the highest result and adding 6 on Normal. However, only 1D6 is rolled on Classic.
  • Unlike the lower two difficulties, you must pick your equipment blindly on Classic. For example, you can still spend 2 equipment points to get a gun, but the gun itself will be random. You also start the game without a chainsaw.
  • Each of the three areas (decks) has 25 cards on Normal, but 30 cards on both Hard and Classic, which makes it more likely that you'll run out of time on the harder difficulties.
However, there is nothing stopping you from re-rolling your character until you get decent stats and equipment. You can also save on all difficulties.

John 1:5
Kill Darkness 25 times on any difficulty.

Like in the original game, only Laser Lance kills count (the Implosion Vest doesn't). There's no need to play through the entire game 25 times, though. Just create a save before fighting Darkness (the game loads right before flipping the card over), then just kill him as much as needed.

By the way, John 1:5 says, "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

Death and Glory. And Death.
Discover all endings.

All nine endings are exactly the same as in the original Chainsaw Warrior. These are mostly just different ways you can die in the game.
  • Run out of time – fail to kill Darkness in 60 minutes (game time, in other words 120 rounds).
  • Die from Wounds – take enough physical damage until your Wounds drop to 0.
  • Die from Radiation – take enough radiation damage until your radiation resistance drops to 0.
  • Die from Venom – take enough venom damage until your venom resistance drops to 0. It should be noted that venom damage is MUCH more common than in the first game. All zombies deal venom damage with each hit now, and there are various other enemies with venom attacks.
  • Get killed by Slime – die in combat with the Slime (one of the random guardian mini-bosses).
  • Get killed by Darkness – die in combat with the Darkness.
  • Suicide by Implosion Vest – use the Vest anywhere other than against Darkness.
  • Victory by Implosion Vest – use the Vest against Darkness.
  • Defeat Darkness – kill Darkness with the Laser Lance.

Bleedin'
Take 200 points of physical damage.

Turnin'
Take 200 points of Venom poisoning.

Glowin'
Take 200 points of Radiation poisoning.

You should get these pretty easily over the course of the game. If you need to grind a certain type of damage, it's probably easiest to create a save before a trap card (Rad Canister, Venom Cloud), then keep loading and triggering the trap as much as needed.

Re-Dead
Kill 200 Zombies.

Zombies are by far the most common enemies in the game. You should get this achievement in a few playthroughs.

Cruelty Zoo
Kill 200 animals.

These include jaguars, crocodiles and monkeys (both the living and zombie variety). Animals only appear in the jungle (first area).

Waning
Kill 200 Moon Cultists.

These include all human enemies, similar to the Chaos Agents from the first game. They are notably less common in the first area (jungle).
Achievements (part 2)
Clumsy
Encounter 3 traps in a row.

This achievement is purely down to luck, but very likely to happen at some point. There are over a dozen different trap cards in the game and many of them tend to repeat over the course of a single playthrough.

Score!
Gather over 10,000 points.

This does not require you to reach 10,000 points in a single playthrough, instead tracking all the points you earn throughout the game (by killing enemies, avoiding traps, etc). You should get this achievement fairly early on.

Sooner or Later, You Have to Let Go
Unlock the 'Jaguar' weapon.

Every time you kill the Jaguar Matriarch guardian, there is a chance that this weapon will unlock. Just create a save before fighting the Matriarch and reload if the 'weapon' didn't unlock.

Vandal
Destroy the Statue in a single round.

The Statue is a guardian made up of three separate cards – two arms and a head. You need to kill each part on the first attempt. Since they're all armored, using any gun with armor-piercing rounds and a sufficiently high Marksmanship skill should do the trick.

I Forgot How to Warrior
Have your Reflex, HtH or Marksmanship reduced to 5.

Roll poorly on any of the three stats (more likely on higher difficulties), then get hit by a Moon Cult Poisoner (reduces all three stats by 3). When you encounter a Poisoner, just keep using Charge and Evade until he hits you.

Call Kenny Loggins
Reach the last 5 cards of the Pyramid deck.

Since Darkness can appear at any point in the Pyramid deck, it's highly possible that you won't reach that far without getting lucky. However, you can try to Escape from Darkness when you encounter him to have him shuffled back into the deck, or use the TDD item to do the same.

Please Stand Up
Kill all 5 Shades before defeating Darkness.

The Shades only appear in the Pyramid deck. For every Shade you manage to kill, the combat stats of Darkness are reduced by 1 when you finally encounter him. Kill all five Shades to give Darkness -5 to Reflexes and Hand-to-Hand, then defeat him for the achievement.

Fisto
Punch Darkness.

You need to have either insanely high stats, lucky dice rolls or have killed enough Shades to weaken Darkness in order to land a punch on him (likely a combination of all three). The punch will obviously have no effect, but you'll get the achievement and that's what counts.

Laser Lost
Lose your Laser Lance.

Items can be lost either through the Lunatic trap (lose a random item), stolen by the Moon Clan Thief (lose a random item when hit) or destroyed when triggering certain traps (like Mines). When you encounter one of these cards, create a save and keep reloading until you lose your Lance.

Laser Loser
Lose your Laser Lance twice in a single game.

First lose the Lance once (see above), then take a replacement from an airdrop and lose the weapon a second time. This achievement requires the most luck, mainly because saving and reloading between the two losses makes the game 'forget' the first one, so you need to do this in one go.

My best advice is to take the Teleporter Implant when picking your loadout, so you can instantly replace the Lance after the first time you lose it. Then hope you run into a Moon Clan Thief because you can keep using Charge/Evade in combat to let him hit you as many times as you want until he either steals the Lance or you run out of hit points or time. You may also want to take as few items as possible to maximize the chances of the Laser Lance being lost.

Groovy
Avoid losing your chainsaw to the lunatic.

The Lunatic is a trap card that causes you to lose a random item. For the achievement, you must first unlock the Implanted Chainsaw (by twice beating the game on Classic) and then pick it for your loadout. When you encounter the Lunatic trap, he will attempt to steal the chainsaw and fail.
Achievements (latest update)
So anyway, I returned to Steam after a 9-year hiatus and of course I'm gonna need to update this guide for a game that's not even on the Steam Store anymore. Because of course.
To reiterate from earlier, you can make liberal use of saving/loading to make all of these achievements much easier to obtain.

Not a Family Man
Kill the Jaguar Matriarch and her guardians in a single attack

The Jaguar Matriarch is a miniboss that can appear in the Jungle zone. Just use any weapon with a spread attack (SMG, flamethrower, etc). You can save right before the fight and retry until your attack succeeds in killing all enemies at once. Easy.

Fight Fire with Fire
Kill the Flame Thrower Cultist with the Flame Thrower

The Flame Thrower Cultist is a miniboss that can appear in the Lost City and Pyramid zones. Just pick the flamethrower during character creation (or via airdrop), then kill the Cultist with it. Save before the fight and reload if you fail.

Seems Ironic
Kill the Suicide Cultist with an explosive weapon

Same strategy as above, but use dynamite as the weapon. Other explosive weapons such as the rocket launcher might work too.

Don't Bring a Chainsaw to a Knife Fight
Have a Chainsaw destroyed while having the Knife still in your inventory

Pick the knife and a chainsaw during character creation. To make things easier, re-roll your stats until you get a bad reflex roll. When you encounter a lunatic, minefield or cave-in trap (the Suicide Cultist should work too), save/load until you fail the reflex roll and the chainsaw gets destroyed.

Darkness Trumped
Win game 3 times in a row in same session

Can be easily cheesed by saving right before the Darkness fight, then reloading the save file twice and killing him again.

Masochist Plus
Beat game on Classic Mode 5 times

Re-roll your initial stats and loadout until you feel you have a good shot at clearing the game. The actual content won't be any harder on classic compared to normal difficulty; the randomized character creator is the real boss here. You can also save right after you create your character for an optimal start each time going forward. Also, the save-reload trick from above works here as well: save right before the Darkness fight, kill him, reload, repeat. For some reason, only the Laser Lance kills count (both regular and Lucky shots), so you can't cheese a win with the Implosion Vest.

Fight Club
Win a game with only the laser lance and fist as weapons (kit allowed)

You actually CAN have other weapons equipped, but you can only use your fists and Laser Lance on enemies (can't use items on them either, so once again the Implosion Vest kill won't count). To make life easier, you can (and should) juice up your Lance with C.A.T.S. and an extra clip during character creation.

Zombi-cide
Kill 500 zombies

Easy enough, since zombies are the most common enemy type. Still, this will probably be the last of the new achievements to get, depending on your luck with completing the 'perfect run' on classic (see below). I had about 300 kills when I was done with all other achievements. One tip to farm zombies quickly: save right before a fight with multiple zombies (Moon Cult Necromancer, razor wire trap, etc), then kill them all with a spread weapon (SMG, two-handed chainsaw), load, repeat.

Chain of Skulls
Kill at least one Monkey, Jaguar, Crocodile, Zombie, Cultist, Mutant, Aberration, and the Darkness in a single game

Most of the enemies are fairly common and you will encounter them all at some point. The animal-type enemies (Jaguar, Monkey, Crocodile) only appear in the first deck (Jungle), so be sure not to miss any of them early on. Note that 'aberration' refers to the monstrous guardians - Temple Guardian Champion, Meat Machine, Slime - that can appear in temples or as minibosses. Also, killing Darkness with Implosion Vest DOES count for this achievement!

Throne of Skulls
Kill at least one Monkey, Jaguar, Crocodile, Zombie, Cultist, Mutant, Aberration, and the Darkness in a single game on Classic Difficulty

This achievement is infinitely easier here than in the origial Chainsaw Warrior. At the time of writing this update, I still haven't cleared that one. All the improvements in CW2:
  • creating a new character is FAR quicker in CW2 thanks to the one-click reroll, ultimately saving a ton of time.
  • CW2 has no chasm encounter, which was essentially an auto-loss in the first game and added another layer of RNG.
  • you only need to fight any ONE of the super-rare enemies (aberrations), not all of them.
  • airdrops: if you fail to get good equipment at the start, you can always hope for a lucky airdrop. I'd still never risk playing without an Implosion Vest, though.

My exact loadout for the run:

wounds: 13
resistances: 22
hand-to-hand: 10
ranged: 12
reflexes: 12
skill: navigator

equipment: 7
axe
jaguar
automatic rifle (2 pts)
steel gloves
body armor
implosion vest

Didn't take too long to get a decently rolled character. Cleared on the first attempt. First airdrop: picked a chainsaw + shotgun (lost the rifle to the lunatic earlier). Second airdrop: picked dynamite to create shortcuts (absolutely bricked the detonation rolls though, 6 out of possible 18).

Conclusion
That's it. I hope this guide has been useful.

Thanks for reading.

Good luck and have fun playing!

I'm having trouble with most of them... :P
And most are pretty grindy and/or dependent on the gods of RNG :(
Zeusberg 18 Apr, 2020 @ 5:38am
Nah, i don't mind if achievements are interesting and not grindy.

@Hammertime
I got all 100%, but long time ago so my memory is fuzzy. Which are you having troubles with?
Hammertime 17 Apr, 2020 @ 6:11am
Hi, unfortunately the guide isn't complete anymore... :(
(I think they added more achievements - your guide lists 25, but there are 35!)
