It does make sense, as the KAC PDW uses a short-stroke tappet piston system, with 2 buffer springs on the bolt carrier. This does away with any need for a buffer tube in the stock.

how do you choose to replace the ump with it?

So you know, this doesn't make sense in real life, because in real life AR type rifles need the buffer tube.
