Description
Whiplash Military Industries Kite-Class Fighter Mark 2
--This ship is completely vanilla, stocked for survival, and uses no pistons or rotors!--

Howdy!

Whiplash Military Industries is proud to present to you the WMI Kite Mark 2! Among many other improvements, the Mark II is faster, lighter, and more agile than her predecessor, the Mark I. The new chassis is much more compact than it was previously. She is equipped with enough armament to make any cocky fighter jockey think twice about picking a fight with her. The Kite is fully equipped for battle: she ships with all vital resources already supplied*!

The Kite gets its name from its distinctive shape; its recognizable silhouette makes it a symbol of WMI engineering prowess. Her frame is quite tough and can take a respectable amount of punishment while still maintaining combat effectiveness. Her redundant systems allow her to fly with over 50% of her systems disabled.

As a safety measure, the Kite will disable its main thrusters when in close proximity to a Large Ship or Station. This prevents accidental crashes that may have resulted from firing the main engines in confined spaces. As always WMI gives the consumer the ability to disable this feature manually**. The Kite is also equipped with a gravity assisted launch system (artificial mass) to allow her to utilize gravity catapults.

* Additional fees may be incurred due to shortages of uranium in the outer systems
** This may void any warranty that was purchased

Tips and Tricks
  • Toggle the Reverse Thrust Cluster [OFF] to fly the Kite similar to an atmospheric fighter!
  • There are two more thrusters on the ventral and dorsal surfaces than there are the port and starboard sides. Pitch either up or down to make tighter turns!
  • Use the targeting camera to aid in long range engagements!
  • The docking camera makes docking with connectors much easier; use this to line up some perfect landings :)
Author's Notes
The Kite my favorite fighter that I've made to date! This build was inspired by a ship of the same name made by Dwarf-Lord Pangolin. :) I hope y'all enjoy! If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to post!

@Malmhrid: Thank you! I'm glad that you like her. I'm quite fond of your Raptor :) Very well designed, aesthetically pleasing, and functional :D

Small but packed with thought out placements of blocks and functions, can function while heavily damaged, and has a great representation! Upvote for you :)

@ Lord Wraith: Of course! I make mine in GIMP :)

For this one I took 4 pictures and, for each one, I created a transparent layer on top then traced the lines with my mouse XD I didn't like the results i was getting with the built in "Edge Detect" tool in GIMP.

As I mentioned, there are much easier ways to do this and Tristavius made a nifty tutorial that shows you how to get started on blueprints :)
