Lava Cannon

Nicknamed the "Burning Helix", Lava Cannons were developed by early space pirates as a means of emulating beam weaponry before their "acquisition" of more efficient generators. Glepsite ore is super heated to it's melting point and ejected through a rotary nozzle to prevent it from solidifying before reaching the target. Gasses given off from the process are fed through a liquid supercooled turbine to keep the process going, thus negating any need for auxiliary power, and then ejected harmlessly into space enabling a constant rate of fire. Not only highly effective against shields, direct impact to a ship's hull is often devastating resulting in large gaping holes leading to rapid decompression. Early models were originally deployed as defensive turrets atop the very asteroids they would use for ammunition as the ship mounted version required the entire cargo hold be used to contain the firing mechanism while the more modern adapted versions of today have reduced this disadvantage considerably.
