The Disruptor Emission Reconfiguration Project began as a Fanatic scientist's desire to deflect a Xengatarn's missiles without inadvertently damaging it's ship. By feeding questionably large amounts of power through a disruptor at lower wavelengths into an artificial graviton field he was able to produce a shorter, wider, and much more intense beam. Unfortunately during the lab testing phase he was blinded at the sight of it and moved too close resulting in his almost instantaneous liquefaction. Though the idea was later scrapped some units have begun to surface and are now being marketed for use in "ship to ship melee" due to their molecular de-constructive capabilities.
