L.R.S. VULTURE

Description
Name: L.R.S. VULTURE
Class: Long Range Salvage Vessel
Construct: Large Block
Mass: 4,067,118
Blocks: 2,784
Mods: None

Description:
The LRS VULTURE was born out of the need for an large block exploration vessel that was high powered and manueverable without all the unecessary bulk of a full fledged "floating factory".
The LRS VULTURE does contain a single refinery, arc furnace and assembly, for those times when you just need a few more steel plates.

Hotbar functions:
#1) Camera - Front mounted camera allows for long range visual location of derelict vessels and early warning of objects in flight path, the high maneuverablility of the ship means easy avoidance.
Auto-stop feature is easily adjustable via Timer Block 1. Click # Timer Block 1 activates in
#4 & #5 Thuster Overide Controls - Key #4 activates the forward thrusters overidie control, more clicks = faster acceleration up to 1Mn at 20 kestrokes. Key #5 decreases the thruster overide with each click, again, up to 20 times until overide is disabled.
#6 Gyroscope Group - Gyro scope overide to lock onto the current heading once a derelict has be detected.
#7 TURBO! - Toggles Gravity Generators and Artificial Mass for speed boost (it's not a huge difference, but it does roughly double the accleration speed) Unfortunately it also has a tendency to pull upwards when active and I am unable to get it balanced any better. It's not TOO bad, and locking the gyros nearly stops it.
#9 Timer Block 1 - This is an automated stop feature for people who are easily distracted or like to fall asleep while flying through space. Activating the start sequence initiates a two minute timer. Upon completion of the timer, an alarm sounds for five seconds, after which time thruster override will be cut by fifty percent. Five seconds later, the thruster override will be disabled and dampeners will TOGGLE -

* THIS IS IMPORTANT* the timer TOGGLES the dampeners, whether you choose use the thruster overide or not , if you use the timer block autostop feature, you must make certain the dampeners are OFF.

Features:
3 flightseat
4 passenger seats
1 large cargo container
2 connectors
1 frontal camera
1 speaker
1 gravity generator (interior gravity)
4 gravity generators + 24 mass blocks ("TURBO!" grav acceleration system)
3 timer blocks
61 gyroscopes
301 thrusters
1 refinery
1 arc furnace
1 assembly
1 antenna
1 beacon

Summary:
I built a few simpler large block vessels for exploration. but they turned out to be rather underpowered. Once merged with a couple large, huge, or enormous derelicts I found the power supply and/or thrust was lacking. Having located several different exploration derelicts, I upgraded to those, and found them grossly underpowered in terms of thrust and maneuverability. This is what prompted me to begin using thruster overides in my hotbar to save me from having to hold the "w" key for 20 minutes waiting for the ship to get up to speed.
Finally I decided to build my own true salvage vessel. Stripped of all the unecessary multiple refineries and assemblies found on derelict exporers, I was able to keep the size relatively small while supplying an abundance of thrust and thus acceleration. The group of 61 gyros means that even merged, manueverability is still more than reasonable.
Finally, as I suffer from ADHD and sleep apnea, I lost more ships than I can count to either falling asleep while flying or getting bored and browsing the web or chatting with friends while my ship (presumably) plays chicken with asteroids. All I know for certain is that I got tired of waking up or ALT+TABing back into game to see the "Choose a med bay to spawn from" screen. Hence the autostop timer blocks. Even at speeds of 500m/s I have yet to return to the game to see that screen.

Special Thanks to DurFea whose engineering genius can be found here -

Upon completion of the LRS VULTURE I was undecided about the paint scheme. I wanted either the deep purple body with black "feathers" or vice versa. DurFea suggested I go with a black body and a purple gradient starting dark at the body getting lighter out towards the win tips. After nearly a week of construction (4 hrs for the ship design, 5 days of screwing around with the angle blocks to prettify the beastie) I promptly suggested to DurFea that he perform numerous acts upon himself and members of his ancestry. At which point he grabbed a paint brush and did the job himself!
Thank you DurFea!

@ Kajikimusha1: I don't really know, I wanted a dedicated salvage vessel with speed and manueverability, and I was running through my head some of the basic design concepts.
With the basic design in my head of a body with everything I need built into it, and lots of large forward and aft facing thrusters. I wanted the thrusters to expand out from the body sideways to make the ship wide enough that I could attach multiple derelicts to it.
Once I had a basic layout set in my head, all hell broke loose!
"What Flies around looking for dead things to eat - VULTURES!" and there's the name.
"Ooo! I can sweep the wingy bits forward in an arc to make them look like wings! That would be cool!!"
Oooo! and I can put spikes stiking out of the ends of the wings to look just like th large flight feathers on a vulture's wingtips!!!"
and from there it just kept going and going until the result is what you see here.

I second what @Darkaiser said: A work of art, definitely. Beautiful work!

Truly a nice vessel. What inspired you to build a bird shaped vessel such as this? Was it the Cygnus from the PS1 game Saga Frontier?Oh no.did i just give you a new project to work on?Although, that would be cool making the Cygnus in SE,lol.

One of the coolest ships I have seen on the Workshop. Really a work of art. 'perform numerous acts on himself and his family' lol!

Thanks!
Check back in a few days, I'll be experimenting tomorrow to see if I can put in a Grav Drive system for greater acceleration!
