A Handbook To Every Survivalists Chapter 9:Stats
By Xgpmcnp and 1 collaborators
Welcome to chapter 9 of this handbook! The last chapter about gameplay!

In here, you'll learn not how to get good, but how the game works.Ever asked yourself "Why don't I have 100% crit chance whenI have 10 Lens Maker's Glasses?!" or "How come getting all those Hermit's Scarf doesn't give me 100% evasion?" or even sometimes "Y NO ALF LIF 3?♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ UUUUUUUUUUUUUU GABEN!!!!!11!!!111".I can't help you about Half Life 3,we'd need a math prof to teach Gaben how to count up to 3,but I can sure help you with your 2 other questions!

Introduction to Chapter 9
This one's going to be a bit more about maths. You see, whenever you punch that lemurian on the face and break most of his body's bone, the game had to do maths to make sure every bones were broken. And here,we're gonna explain how it works.
Health Points and how the Bitter Root works on the long term
Health Points are simple. You get a base stat depending on your character, and it gets higher whenever you level up.You can boost it with items.

Bitter root DOES work on the long term, though.Get 38 Bitter roots and 1 infusion,if you wanna prove it.You'll get more than one HP per kill, because you'll get a +300% bonus on that +1 Max HP.
Attack Stat and how damage works
Attack stat is a bit tricky.

Every characters have a base attack stat.It gets higher on leveling up,and can be boosted by many items.Attack power are based on percentage, for exemple Ceremonial Daggers does 100% damage each. This means they do the amount of damage your Attack stat is at.The higher it is,the more damage you deal.

This is easily tested by taking the Huntress, getting Ceremonial daggers and see how poorly effective it will be,then get the Sniper, give it the Ceremonial Daggers and see how it mostly 2-shots Sand Crabs.

Damage works by first calculating your damage,then calculating the enemy's resistance,substracting them,and you've got your damage.For exemple,let's say I have 500 attack stat,and I do 120%.120% of 500 is 600,meaning I'm dealing 600 damage.But then the enemy has a 20% damage resistance!This reduces it by 20%,meaning I'll be back to dealing 500 damage.
Armor Stat and how Tough Times stacks
Little is known about exactly how armor works.Havign 14 armor points does not mean you get 14% reduced damage. The only formula I've found is the following:
Damage reduction=Armor/(Armor+100)

That would mean you're never invulnerable, unless you hold 1422 Tough Times (Lots of plushies!),where it will be rounded up to 100% damage reduction.

Tough Times gives you a 14 armor stat boost and stacks. With a single one of these, damage is reduced by ~12.3% (14/114).Sadly,it does not stack additively, but multiplicatively, meaning you get less bonus per time you pick it up.

However,it is unknown exactly how armor stat stacks, and I ain't a math geek!
Attack Speed Stat and how Soldier's Syringe stacks
Attack speed is a bit more simple but still tricky.Ever characters got a base attack speed stat, and it will gain more attack speed on leveling up at it' own rate. You can still boost your attack speed with items, the best one being the obvious choice,Soldier's Syringe.

How it works is,you've got your base attack speed. When you get a soldier's Syringe,it boost that one by 15% until you reach a 120% boost (8 Syringes).Against common belief, this item does NOT cap at 8 though:You'll still get a boost, but it won't be as big and not very noticable until you get 50+ Syringes.

Movement Speed Stat
Movement speed is kinda like attack speed

Everyone's got a base movement speed. It gets higher every level. With items, you can boost it with percentages, like the Goat Hoofs' bonus.Simple one, exactly like attack speed but for your movement.
Evasion Stat
Evasion's a simple one.You get 0 evasion by base,on every characters. To get it up,you gotta get Hermit Scarfs.

The Hermit scarf gives you a 10% evasion chance and when you get more,it's a +5% until a maximum of 35%.

Capping evasion means that everytime you get hit,the game rolls a "100 faces dice" and if the result is between 1 and 35,you evaded the hit.If the hit is between 36 and 100,you get hit.
Critical Hit Chance Stat and how crit items stacks
Critical hits are simple. You have a percentage of chances to do crits, and the game rolls a 100 face dice,as always. If you get an amount equal or under the percentage, you crit.If it's over the percentage, you get normal damage.

But to get crit chances,it's a bit more tricky.Because yeah,Lens Maker's Glasses gets you crit higher by 10%.Does that mean having 10 of them gives you 100%?Nope.You'd need infinite of them to get 100% crit chance, which is impossible to get because infinite isn't a defined number reachable with items. They stack so you get a lower upgrade everytime you get one.

Simple explanation:If you get 1 glass,it's a +10%.But if you're at,let's say,7 glasses (52% crit),you'll only get a 4.7% chance upgrade.

Math Geek mode on:Here's the formula to calculate how the crit stacks: (1-(.9)^X)*100 where X is the number of glasses.

Now how to get 100%.Luckily,if you get a Harvester's Scythe while having 10 Lens Maker's Glasses,it won't get you a lower bonus on the Harverster's scythe. So you'll get the whole +5% from Harverster's Scythe if it's your first.

Still, getting more then 1 of any crit item will reduce their crit boost. The best way to get 100% crit chance is to get a lot of each items.I recommend getting 8 Lens Maker's Glasses,4 Predatory Instincts,4 Harverster's Scythe and a Wicked Ring. The Wicked Ring is not needed to reach 100% chance but you'll defenitively want the cooldown reset.

So yeah, get a lot of different crit items to reach 100% and it'll make a great combo because heal+attack speed bonus+ cooldown reset every crit, which now equals everyone of your attack.
Ending of Chapter 9
And this is how Chapter 9 ends

Note from Xgpmcnp:I had no ideas what half of this meant.Especially the formulas. But now I know, and it'll make Risk of Rain much more appreciable now that I know how the game works!

Note from Coffeechipmunk:I have no ideas how to breathe.

You can use any parts of this guide anywhere you wish, and you do not need to mention my name, even though it'd be appreciated.Just don't claim it as yours, since that's a ♥♥♥♥♥ slap on my face and my work.

Special thanks to:
Anonxident,my girlfriend, for talking to me and helping me on certain English expression I had difficulty with (Frenchy over here!)
Moxicles,Erladino and Cogi234 for their feedback!
Coffeechipmunk for being a great teamates

also as far as the attack speed it caps out at 195% which is 13 syringes from what ive seen. ive done a run of lifesteal and soldier syringes and once i hit 13 my attack speed wouldnt go up regardless of the 60 other syringes i picked up.

im not sure if this was mentioned before but the armor stat doesnt truely stack to 100%. it sticks to 99%-99.9% if i remember correctly.

Yes, you are right. It goes up, but less and less up the more you get some. But the more it drops, the less it'll drop. It's called "Reverse Exponentiallity". The lower something get, the slower it'll get lower. It's basically the contrary of Exponentiallity, where it goes up faster as it goes up. The perfect example of Exponentiallity is Debts. You have debts, then interests gets in. The more debts the more interests, so the higher is the "debt" stat, it'll raise faster. Well Lensmaker's Glasses is the contrary. The lower it boosts your Crit stat, the slower it'll drop.

That was pretty complicated.

I'm not certain, but i think the math on the Lensmaker's Glasses is a bit off. It seems that according to your equation, the percent chance of getting a critical hit would drop.
