China Fishing Fortress(The Whip Of God Broke)

Fishing Fortress,perched on cliff by the Jialing River in present-day Chongqing China,was a pivotal military stronghold of the Southern Song Dynasty(1127-1279). Built to fend off the Mongol Empire's westward expansion,its rugged terrain and well designed defenses-including thick walls,moats,and hidden barracks-turned it into an impregnable fortress. From 1243 to 1279,it withstood decades of fierce Mongol sieges.Notably, in 1259,Mongol Great Khan Mongke died here from wounds,forcing his brothers Kublai Khan and Ariq Boke to retreat for succession,which halted Mongol campaigns in Europe, the Middle East,and Southeast Asia.So the Fishing Fortress was also known as the place where the whip of God broke.
