  • Civilization: Shang EmpireThe Shang Dynasty (c. 1600-1046 BCE) is the first dynasty in Chinese history to enter the "verifiable historical period" (Xinshi). Confucius was a descendant of the Shang royal lineage.


  • Civilization Ability: Stretch the realm's sway to the world's four shores
    Land military units gain +3 Combat Strength when fighting within 12 tiles of the Capital. Gain two Technologies by Dispersing an Independent for the first time. Codices are not awarded from Technologies.
    Can generate Codices from building Zongmiaos and Altars after completing the Oracle Bone Inscriptions Civic.
    +30%Production towards constructing Terracotta Army.

  • Unique Building 1: Bronze-casting Workshop
    +4 Production. +1 Science Adjacency for Navigable Rivers and Quarters. +1 Production Adjacency for Wonders. Shang Unique Production and Military Building. Ageless.

  • Unique Building 2: Zongmiao
    +3 Happiness. +1 Influence Adjacency for Altars. +1 Culture Adjacency for Quarters and Wonders. Has 2 Codex slots. Grant a Codex when finished. Shang Unique Happiness Building. Ageless.

  • Unique Quarter: Da Yi
    Shang Unique Quarter. Created by constructing the Zongmiao and Bronze-casting Workshop in the same District. +15% Growth Rate (per Age) and +5 Trade Route range (per Age) in this settlement.

  • Unique Military Unit: Shang Chariot
    Shang Unique Cavalry Unit. +3 Combat Strength against Independents. Pillaging gives Science equal to 25% of the yield or healing. Ignores Zone of Control.

  • Unique Army Commander: Ya
    Shang Unique Army Commander. Gain +1 Movement from every owned Altar (the upper limit is 3). Every owned Zongmiao provides +1 Combat Strength for Land Military Units in the Command Radius (the upper limit is 3).


Unique Civics:
  • Unique Civic 1: Oracle Bone Inscriptions
    Grant a Codex
    Grant a Codex when completing an Altar.
    Unlocks "Human Offering" tradition: Every Settlement that are not founded by you provides +5 Happiness for your Capital. Gain Happiness equal to 50% of the defeated Unit's strength.

    Codices gain +2 Culture.
    +50% Production towards Happiness Buildings.


  • Unique Civic 2: Jifu system
    Unlocks unique building "ZongmiaoBronze-casting Workshop".
    Unlocks unique unit Shang Chariot.
    Unlocks unique unit Ya.

    Unlocks "Inner and Outer Service" tradition: Cities and Towns within 6 tiles of the Capital gain +6% Production or +6% Food. This bonus is reduced to +3% for those between 7 and 12 tiles.
    Shang Chariots gain +5 Combat Strength against Infantry Units.
    +1 Settlement Limit.


  • Unique Civic 3: Cyclical Sacrifice
    Unlocks unique building "Zongmiao".
    Unlocks Terracotta Army.
    Unlocks "Posthumous Day-Names" tradition: Happiness buildings get +3 Culture per age, but -1 Gold per age.

    +10% Culture in the Capital.
    Unlocks "Gu Jue" tradition: +2 Resource Capacity in Cities, while +1 Resource Capacity in Towns.
    +1 Settlement Limit.
