"Why"?
Well because! Dirtmoles haven't any pizzazz! And after my crusade to spiff up Yttakin without changing their identity, it's about time Dirtmoles got such an identity to speak of.

I had the idea to give them little whiskers and squinty eyes, (which can also be used for your custom xenos), because it's so much more distinct than just gray people! It really evokes "I don't belong in direct sunlight", doesn't it?

And best of all, it's a vanilla-friendly design! Who doesn't love those?

(Does not apply to existing dirtmoles, only newly added ones)
