GWR Country

Description
Welcome to GWR Country...

This large 1:1 vanilla Transport Fever 2 map is meant to represent those parts of the UK where the Great Western Railway reigns supreme!

The start date is 1880 so you don't spend too much time with horses and carts :)

GWR Country is developed from a real world 1:1 Google heightmap of the area around Shrewsbury, Shropshire UK, and the longest river in the UK - the River Severn... using the NLS maps for street and rail placement for the 1890's.

Except that the town names have been changed, and several of the industry placements are fictional (oil and iron ore in particular), to make it more "generic" to the GWR region :)

The map features:

1 - magnificent navigable rivers across the map

2 - multiple rail lines which converge in the major urban area

3 - the Shrewsbury Canal, which joined the Shopshire Union Canal

4 - the fictional town of Bordertown, the Eastern portal of the railway line to London

One again, I've indicated where the railway lines (7 of them) were placed in reality, by using the small vanilla country road, some of which is player owned in places near urban areas to limit the AI taking over.

The "painted" canal also includes some player owned segments of small vanilla country road to hopefully prevent the AI converting them to streets and wrecking the canal :)

Overall, 5.7% of roads are player owned, for a maintenance cost of around $160k per period.

This is provided as a vanilla map... but it is just waiting for you to include many of the GWR assets available on Steam to bring it to "life" as I am attempting to do in my current video series on YouTube.

Initial episodes of that series show you how to incorporate the Narrowboats mods to make a "painted" canal work for you!

Please leave a like, and enjoy playing this map!

Cheers,
Stephen Spry

@Colly Thanks for your kind words mate! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying my maps... and yes, I think you are right about the future of the Mac... so I'll just keep on making them for us Mac people :) Cheers!

#ItzHussain Thanks mate!. Unfortunately the only way to show "historical" railways on a VANILLA map IS to use country roads. I'm hoping we can include rail in TPF3 maps when that happens.

@takashi Working at full speed... indeed :)

@Reddragon792 The map is vanilla as stated. You can then add any GWR related mods if you want... or not :) I regularly list the mods I am using in the video playlist.

Another cracking map sir! Thank you.

I've recently been enjoying Northumberland, currently The Blue Bell and now after watching your latest video I've downloaded this too.

You sir are the best map maker for TF2. I think I'm going to be playing TF2 for a while yet with these maps as I doubt TF3 is coming to Mac unfortunately.

The detail, level and quality of the finish is second to none for me. As for the comment below regarding the lines being drawn as roads - "despise" - is a bit strong, but I get it, especially if you want "free-play". Although it really is not so hard to delete them. For me I love the historical and realistic flavour of your maps. Maybe painting them on might be more appealing? Then again, I'm sure you've probably tried that.

Love this map. Only thing i really despise is the rail lines already being drawn as urban roads.

More than the map itself, the ongoing map play is amazing!
More than the map itself, the ongoing mapplay is amazing! I had no idea how to use "Spitzkehre +++" or "British Ashplant and Coaling Stage".
I realized that it was there because it was a steam train, and it made sense. So energetic! Bravo! Your head is working at full speed.
