1962 Lincoln Continental

With Ford losing out sales to Cadillac as well as losing money on its third generation Continental, it was clear something needed to be done to revamp its Lincoln line of cars. The fourth generation Continental was originally sketched out to be a new Ford Thunderbird model. While it didn't make the cut it did make its way over to the Lincoln division to become the new Continental model. It was shorter than its previous model year, but heavier than that of Cadillac and other competitors. This generation of the Continental would be one of the heaviest passenger cars Ford would ever produce. This generation is also famous for its 'Coach doors' (suicide doors). It featured many improvements over its predecessor that of quality and comfort. The car came in a couple different body styles including 4 door, 2 door, and 4 door convertible. Pricing was around 6000 dollars to 6700 for the convertible in 1961. Much less than its previous years, but still more than the base price for some of its competitors including Cadillac. In total in 1962 roughly 31,000 cars were produced and sold.
