Potions Class

Description
Class is in session!

Press-your-luck to be the first student to pass Potions class. Score points and craft potions to stay ahead, or fail trying.

Premise:

Take a risk and roll the dice in a magical potions class. Complete rounds of potion making to accumulate points and be first to pass the class. Play it safe by earning extra credit along the way or press your luck to finish first and risk flunking out. Craft your own concoctions to jump ahead — may the cleverest student win!

Gameplay:
Each player takes a turn by rolling the dice. Score points and craft potions with every roll. Players can end their round at any point to bank the points they have collected, or push their luck to score higher and earn extra credit. Risk failing the test if you cannot score any points or craft any potions on a particular roll. Excel by crafting your own potions or earning extra credit.

Included:
22 card potions deck
6 card "scorecard" deck for handy reference
6 sets of 2 d10, one black and one green, for keeping score (i usually do black for the tens digit and green for the ones).
2 blue d6
2 red d6
2 green d6

How to play:

1. Decide who goes first, and then go clockwise around. Method for deciding is whatever you want to use.

2. Flip potion cards face up onto the table until there are three cards. If there are already three cards, skip this step.

3. For each player's turn, roll the six d6 dice. If you have any potions that are used at the start of the round, you may use them before rolling.

4. If you "score" any dice, you can choose to either put them in your scoring pool, or use them to craft potions that are on the table, if the color of the score dice match. Dice used for crafting potions do not count towards your score, unless you have used a potion that allows it.

5. You may reroll the remaining dice if you wish, as many times as you want as long as you keep scoring dice. However, if you make a roll that does not score any, you fail and do not keep any of your points or potions from that round, so be careful with pushing your luck!

6. If you fail during the round, you will also fail the attempt to craft all potions in your scoring area, and they are discarded.

Players may only have a maximum of 3 potion cards, and may discard them during their turn to gain the effect. If you attempt to craft more than three, you must discard or use stored potions, or discard (but not use) attemped until you are at 3.

7. If the potion cards deck runs out, shuffle the discarded/used potion cards back in.

Winning:

Once a player has ended their turn with 100 points or more, all remaining players get one last round of testing to try and catch up.

After the final player has gone, the player with the highest score wins. If two or more players are tied, they are joint winners.
