M16A2 — The Standardized Service Rifle of an Era
The M16A2 is the definitive Cold-War/late-20th-century U.S. service rifle—an evolution of the original M16 family tuned for reliability and controllable full-auto fire in the hands of conscripted infantry. Chambered in 5.56×45mm NATO, the A2 introduced a heavier, more durable barrel, a redesigned rear sight (adjustable for windage/elevation), improved ergonomics, and a three-round burst fire control (replacing full-auto on many service rifles). Tough, accurate at typical infantry ranges, and built to military spec, the M16A2 defined a generation of riflemen.

– Barrel: heavier, chrome-lined for durability and sustained fire.
– Fire control: semi-auto + 3-round burst (on US service A2s).
