They were thrown overboard for violating safety regulations during the transportation of metals and stones from the Great Cave. The Ivy Goo clung to the ship's structure, believing they could reassemble, hold on, and then patch the holes.
Perhaps it would have worked.

However, these goo balls were thrown in the lake along with a portion of the hull.
