Mk18 Mod 1 — Short-Barrel CQB Carbine
The Mk18 Mod 1 is the Naval Special Warfare / SOCOM-fielded short-barreled variant of the M4 family built around a 10.3-inch cold-hammer-forged barrel and a heavy, railed handguard (the Mk18 RIS/RAIL systems). Designed for close-quarters battle, shipboard work and rapid entry, the Mk18 trades long-range reach for extreme maneuverability, fast target acquisition and easy mounting of SOPMOD accessories. It’s chambered in 5.56×45mm NATO and is one of the most common compact carbines used by US SOF.

– Caliber: 5.56×45mm NATO.
– Barrel: ~10.3″ cold-hammer-forged, chrome-lined (optimized for full-auto/cqb use).
– Handguard: Daniel Defense / KAC style railed systems on Mod 1 builds (designed for SOPMOD kit).
– Role: CQB, VBSS, shipboard and close-range special operations; compact, quick and highly modular.
