Project Southern Cross [v0.5.4]

The ultimate expansion pack for the Royal Australian Defence Forces Mod Pack

This mod pack is a huge collection of all of the alternate history mods I have made to date, now all together, refined and in one easy to maintain and operate mod pack. Designed to work as a standalone mod, but is perfectly suited to use in conjunction with the Royal Australian Defence Forces mod made by skyblazer which I assist with.

Important to note - your mod load order when using this mod with other mods:
  • Load NTU first, this mod uses many assets from there.
  • Load this mod 2nd, above the RADF mod.
  • Load the Royal Australian Defence Forces Mod after Project Southern Cross, as some of the content alters a few of the alt-history RADF units.
  • I highly recommend you do not run any of my individual mods that are marked as [RETIRED] while using this mod pack as they are now integrated and are no longer being actively worked on.

Royal Navy Mod should be okay to run with this, place it above both RADF and this mod just in case. There is very likely going to be clashes with larger mods such as Twilight of Empires, that mod is super cool but isolating what is causing a clash is still to be worked out. Recommend you don’t run this mod with ToE.

This mod contains a range of units, from very plausible 'what-ifs' such as an ex-HMS Invincible which was set to replace HMAS Melbourne in 1982-1983 and become HMAS Australia, a deal was signed in 1982 but was cancelled after Britain opted to keep Invincible after the Falklands. Another asset in this mod include something inspired from a paper ship, the cancelled Australian Light Destroyer Project (DDL), with the remainder being concepts from my own imagination and other possible 'what-if' purchases or upgrade projects that accompany many of the units in the mod.

Naval Units Included:
  • HMAS Australia (ex-HMS Invincible) 1983+ - a robust STOVL carrier, almost replaced HMAS Melbourne in reality
  • HMAS Australia (ex-HMS Hermes STOVL) 1984+ - a powerful STOVL carrier, offered as an alternative once the HMS Invincible deal was cancelled
  • HMAS Australia (ex-HMS Hermes CATOBAR) 1970+ - a very powerful light carrier, was very close to replacing HMAS Melbourne as early as 1968
  • HMAS Melbourne 1984-1999 - a 'what-if' concept if she was modernised rather than scrapped
  • HMAS Borneo 1981+ - a concept ex-HMS Bulwark configured as a Landing Platform Helicopter
  • HMAS Canberra 1968+ - a concept ex-USS Springfield (Providence-class CLG) including a 1980s refit
  • Quickmatch-class Flight I 1975+ - a 'what-if' successful DDL project (ASW Destroyer)
  • Quickmatch-class Flight II 1982+ - 'Bataan-subclass' of the above (AAW Destroyer)
  • Gallipoli-class 2001 - ex-Kidd-class, was seriously considered as a replacement for the Perth-class in the late 1990s
  • Vengeance-class 1976+ - Valiant derived nuclear attack submarine, based off hypothetical plans in the 1960s for RAN SSNs to be acquired from Britain
  • Goldsworthy-class 1985 -Sturgeon derived SSN, a follow on American designed class to supplement the Vengeance-class boats representing a fully mature SSN program

Air Units Included:
  • A-4AU Super Skyhawk Mk.1 & Mk.3 - a concept licence built Skyhawk if CATOBAR operations continued past 1982
  • Mirage IIIO(W) - a concept upgrade with improved radar, missiles and Maverick integration to act as a bridge to the Hornet
  • S-2G Tracker improvements - concept Harpoon upgrade and Turbo Tracker upgrade (stats boost to reflect this only)
  • Gannet AEW.3 - a 'what-if' purchase to operate from HMAS Australia CATOBAR
  • Gannet AEW.7 - a 'what-if' license-built upgrade to operate from refitted HMAS Australia CATOBAR
  • AH-1J & AH-1T SuperCobra - a 'what-if' purchase to operate from HMAS Borneo (T model on refitted Borneo)
  • Sea King AEW.2A & AEW.5 - a 'what-if' purchase to operate from STOVL carriers and refitted Melbourne
  • Sea King Mk50B+ - a concept ASW upgrade to operate from refitted carriers
  • Sea King HC4A - a concept medium-lift transport or 'commando' variant to equip HMAS Borneo
  • Wessex HU.5A - a concept armed utility Wessex to operate from HMAS Borneo
  • Seahawk enhanced - concept upgrades to the Seahawk to improve ASW abilities

Features:
✅ Custom and kitbashed units with powerful upgrades and refits
✅ Fully fleshed out lore, high attention to detail for sensors and equipment
✅ Perfect for creating alt-history Australia focused scenarios
✅ Ideal for including in alt-history Cold War or Pacific flashpoint scenarios with other mods
✅ Designed to work alongside the RADF mod
✅ Ranging from realistic 'what-if' acquisitions to creative concepts

There could be a chance theres a naming clash with something the ToE creator has added for their RAN assets. I would have to spend time looking for what it could be, for now I would say this mod is not compatible with ToE

Just had the same issue as Baxter.BJ. Got CTD until I disabled ToE.

@baxter.bj - no worries! Probably not a bad idea, in other games you can have custom profiles like that, so when you start up the game you can pick from different mod sets depending on what you want to do. Cheers

Peter,

Thank You for such a quick response, Ill mess a bit today.
Interesting thought , I wonder if you could set up different Profiles, as to what Mods you want to use on a particular Day, Maybe something I put forward to the Developers?

Keep the Great Work

@baxter.bj - mods are a bit of an enigma sometimes, and load order can play a role. Unfortunately too, the more mods you have active at once the higher the likelihood of crashes. It is best to only have active what you require at a time. Especially using huge mods like ToE it can be a bit tricky.
I do plan on checking over this mod again possibly this evening to ensure there isn’t something bugged out. Cheers

Hi Peter, I don’t think it’s your Mod.
I have over 150+ mods and missions, working flawlessly on the Stable Beta.
I can add missions not requiring Mods, no problem.
I’ve tried adding this Mod, correct placement, Crash.
Take it off, all good again, Load T of E, same issue.
Im guessing each individual set up of Mods is unique to each person, and when one of these additional Mods is added, there is a clash, but getting to that Clash is a mine field.

@SSG Beard - I did a lot of testing and I’m fairly certain I eliminated any errors but I’ll keep an eye out for more bug reports, go over the mod again tomorrow and do a patch if need be
