In the first quarter of the twenty-first century, a global fertility crisis brought the United States to the brink of catastrophe and led to the rise of the Sons of Jacob. When an attack on Washington, D.C. by unknown individuals in September 2014 led to the near-annihilation of the American government, the Sons quickly took advantage of the chaos to overthrow what little remained and began the process of reshaping the United States into its own image: the curtailing of all rights for women and the systematic eradication of all parts of everyday life deemed heretical by the Sons' extremist interpretation of the Christian Bible. With the nation reeling from the President's Day Massacre and all opposition disorganised and divided by the efforts of the new government, the continental United States swiftly fell under what would soon become the Republic of Gilead.

But not all was lost for what once was viewed as America. The surviving remnants of the United States government soon fled to Alaska, where they would rally the nation to their cause and begin a long and bitter struggle to reclaim their homeland from Gilead. With the rest of the world behind them, a promise was made: that America would shine once again from sea to shining sea...

The Handmaid's Tale is a TV series based on a novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood; this mod contains the flags of the Republic of Gilead alongside the exiled United States, with the UN and NATO flags as a bonus for a mission pack that is now in the works.
