Description
"Westerplatte broni się jeszcze" - 'Westerplatte - 1939' - A gift for a great friend, @Akoza, who shared amazing resources about Berlin and drove me towards making deeply historic missions. These recent maps from him are stunning & scratch an itch for urban combat.

*FOR MORE 1939 POLISH ACTION - PLAY NUTELLA'S CLASSIC: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3330551466 *

*4:48 AM, Friday - it is the first of September and you have been woken up by the enormous booms of the Schleswig-Holstein's guns firing in the Port of Danzig...*

The military transit depot and garrison located north of the Free City of Danzig on the Westerplatte peninsula was to be one of many targets struck simultaneously on the border of the Third Reich and Poland. Uniquely this attack would be spearheaded by the recently formed Marinestosstruppkompanie, who were accompanying the SMS Schleswig-Holstein.

In anticipation for the defense of the peninsula, the Polish had already spent time smuggling in small & heavy arms under hay on train cars & rotated men through inspections in order to make the inflated garrison of 200+ appear only 80 strong. Positions were dug & trees were hewn to create firing lines in order to catch any attacker in a hail of fire.

This is exactly what would happen to the first probing waves of the German MSK as they found themselves in an ambush when engaging with the Polish at "Prom". The earlier naval bombardment had failed to make any dent on the defenders as the distance was not enough to arm the proximity fuses and none of the ordinance from the Schleswig-Holstein detonated. A second bombardment starting at 7:40 & lasting 75 minutes would knock out a field gun, but only further turn the battlefield into a mess that helped the Polish garrison stay concealed.

Over the next 7 days, the Polish Garrison would hold out against all odds and only capitulate after Polish command was able to communicate through their shellshock and push for a surrender. Polish casualties insanely count up to 15 dead/40 wounded, while the Germans suffered 50 dead/150 wounded. The defense was so tough that there were early rumors by assaulting forces that the Polish had dug a tunnel network under the peninsula, which was not the case. The Germans just executed many plans terribly. Included in the map you can find a burning train car which represents one of the attempts by the Germans to attack a position by sending a burning train car at it. The engineer decoupled early and caused a small forest fire which would open up more fields of fire for the defenders...

[Objective]
As the Polish Garrison, hold back against all German attacks. If a defensive line is falling, then retreat to the next defensive ring and repeat the defense.
As the German MSK, engage & assault each of the three polish defensive lines (1st encampment "Prom", then encampments "Fort" & "Tor", then finally the Ammo Bunker/Guardhouse 2, Officers Casino, & Barracks).

[Weaponry]
Polish: Rifles, Karabinek wz. 1929 (I know I use too many of them, I just love the rifle and want an excuse), Karabin wz. 98 (G98/K98Az Stand-ins for older rifles), Mosin 91/30 & Berthier 07/15 (given to Civilian defenders)., Pistols, Browning Hi Power(stand-in for Radom), Nagant Revolver (Civilian)., Machine Guns, Rkm wz. 28, Browning M1917s (many of them!)., Heavies, 3-4 Mortars (Historically accurate), & 2 AA guns.

German:Rifles, Karabiner 98k., Pistols, Luger P08, Walther P38., Machine Guns, Spandau., Heavies, Naval(SMS Schleswig-Holstein), Air(II Gruppe StG 2 'Immelmann', Ju87s), Mortar & Howitzer support, & a rare Flammenwerfer or two (When assaulting Guardhouse 2).

[Notes]
-Apologies for visual bug regarding Cloud FX and smoke, this doesn't occur in the mission editor but happens when playing the mission(?).
-Tried my best to name the Polish units accordingly, apologies if the grammar is horrible!
-I am not depicting the failed SS/Police landing attempt on the northwestern banks or the Torpedo Boat attacks. I've already placed so many trees and I feel bad about my missions being very cost heavy on computers.
-No SMGs. They weren't used in the assault of Westerplatte with all the info I can find.
-No Armor. Sorry about that too.
-Lots of grenades for both sides in inventories
-Player can spawn as Polish Civilians & Doctors (Lekarz), though as AI they are active during the final defense of the building complexes.
-Poles get a sort of joke spawn in the later stages which translates akin to "Rooftop Pole", those who get it will get it.
-There are some Italian trucks which are stand-ins for PZInz 713s (some of these may contain goodies!)
-I have hidden weapon selectors within the polish backline for those who wish to test any weapon in this crazy defense mission. The icons are hidden & if you wanna know the locations just comment!
-"Why are the Howitzer detachment wearing so many strapped helmets?", I found a period photo of similar men all wearing them so I copied it.
-No music, I've included a loop of silence. Feel free to listen to anything you wish while playing or listen to the unadulterated sounds of battle.
-ALSO IM SORRY I NEVER ADD OPENING MISSION TEXT* I'll keep trying because I want to reach the same standard as the community.

Feedback is desperately wanted! Please drop any ideas or suggestions for things within the mission! I have designed this mission with heavy influence from @Nutella so that the player is allowed as much freedom as possible. This one is very different from even my older WW2 missions and mixes many of my new techniques with some classic ER2 methods. It may run like crap for some due to the loads of tree props I have added to make the map appear bombed/shot out.

@TheCalcMan, I got it working! I have to admit I have been very slow! I had issues with the option when it was first introduced and I had discounted it early on I assume? I largely am not comfortable with communicating with the devs anymore so rely on the ideas of Y'all! Thank you for the help. I owe you a steam gift for Christmas!:thestar:

@BerenOneHand No problem, just want to speed up the time it takes to figure it out. It's called "show intro text" or show battle intro" or something (not on the computer right now) but it's on the far-left tab in the editor, at the very top of the page. You have to manually click the check box for it every time you make a mission.

@jaybee & @D.E.L.T.A thank you immensely! The recent uniform/headgear mod "Operation Citadel" honestly has opened the door for historical variety within the community! I am itching for an old Winter War map to possibly be fixed so that the Finnish pieces may be used to the highest fidelity...

@TheCalcMan I will try that now as I work on a short little updated on visuals & some new easter-eggs! Thank you like mad for the time you have spent towards thinking of a solution for me!:thestar:

@BerenOneHand Actually, did you check the "show intro text" box in the mission editor? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause your intro text to not show in any mission you make, if it isn't anything else I mentioned

Forgot to mention, maybe try deleting the localization file and generating a new one.

@BerenOneHand I'm sorry you feel defeated, but I'm telling you, it has to be a small thing that was overlooked because of how straightforward it works. I'd keep trying, but it's up to you.

@TheCalcMan, no dice sadly, I feel so defeated man. I hope that my workshop descriptions are detailed enough at least to for-go the short introduction sentences.
