Description
This is a map edit from another that was called Santa Ana, sorry that I forgot who originally did it, maybe Goat Rodeo. Anyway, it's not finished. Lots of little things to add, like TFUR pillars on some overpasses. A couple of rivers need finishing. Could put in lineside poles. But, the basics are done and functioning. It is BIG, take about 30 mins to load up on my computer, but those who have a newer, faster, smarter computer, it will be fun. lots of great little vignettes to be had.

I created four "off-map" staging yards with industries demanding and generating. Road connections are there, too, and the boats connect at the NW one.

The backstory: there are 5 RR's, 2 class 1's, 3 short lines. BNSF from the SouthEast and SouthWest to NorthEast; UPRR from SE & SW to NW. El Paso Northern from El Paso to Falls Ck and Klemmer, they run joint trains w/UP to Chevron. Monique & Eastern from Monique to Victor & Warren. CSX, (an amalgam of short lines), from the central coast to Margottin Bay to Claudine and Mineral Springs and Mesquite. Also, an industrial at the Chevron refinery.

BNSF was the Santa Fe, from SW to NE, and the Burlington from SE to Monique, you'll see two truck terminals where the Burlington yard used to be. The UP was all SP, with the original coast line now downgraded to a secondary, from SW to Santa Ana then to the NW, and the overland route through Falls Ck to the SE. EPN built north to Falls Ck and connection w/SP. Klemmer & Falls Ck started building but only got to old man Klemmer's farm and ranch. They hired EPN to finish the construction to Falls Ck. When the failed to pay EPN, EPN took over the line. CSX, Central State Lines, built from the vineyards on the coast to the winery at Claudine, Mineral Springs RR built to the Paper and Lumber mills at Claudine. Mesquite Southern connected to CSL to reach Sunkist in Margottin Bay. Eventually all became one.

UP had built a connection to the refinery in the 1920's and ATSF got rights on it. When the new container harbor was built in the late 1970's, this line was expanded to four tracks, with BNSF & UP sharing the two new ones.

The big industry is oil refining. Next is agriculture with ranches and farms feeding to meat packing, textiles, cheese, beer and alcohol distillery and winery. EPN is making lots of money from hauling sand to the oilfields, (from sand pits they developed), and crude to the refinery. CSX is doing fine with logs & lumber & paper, fruit & juice, grapes & wines. UP & BNSF do some business with them, but as is the case in real life, they're mainly jus' passin' through.

Passengers are handled by Amtrak with 5 routes: Southwest Chief From NE to SW; Coast Starlight from NW to Santa Ana; Sunset Limited from SE to Santa Ana through Falls Ck; Desert Wind from SE to Santa Ana through Monique; El Pasoan from El Paso to Falls Ck. Commuter and shorthaul intercity is done by North Coast Transit with 3 routes each starting in Santa Ana then going to Klemmer, Mesquite, and San Luis with intermediate stops, and South Coast Transit with only 1 route to the airport, Monique, and Monroe, (this route is the busiest). Amtrak trainsets that terminate at Santa Ana are serviced at the facility across the river from town.

I hope that this game will give you a good sense of USA railroading. Have fun.
