Windows on the World — A World Trade Centre Blueprint

Description
Windows on the World is a 1:4 scale recreation of the original World Trade Centre (US: World Trade Center) complex in New York City, featuring all major buildings from WTC 1 through 7. The blueprint aims to stay as faithful as possible to the original designs while still working within Software Inc's constraints.

(DESCRIPTION UNDER CONSTRUCTION)

  • Full complex building cost: €201,422,947 ($223,803,274)
  • Land area: 64 x 64 m base, plus additional sections to accommodate for WTC 6 and 7 (see below)
  • Floor count: 47 floors (58 including WTC 1 antenna)
  • Total surface area: 40,475 m²

45 individual blueprints — most unfurnished

Because of the sheer scale of Windows on the World, you probably won't want to drop the entire complex at once. The blueprint group you'll download contains multiple sub-blueprints, arranged for different stages of a playthrough. If you're playing sandbox or money isn't an issue, you can skip 'Incremental construction' and head straight to 'Full complex placement'.

  • Best placed on a rural map with the generation string NOLAKES
  • Increase the floor cap in FloorMod to at least 58 before placing anything
  • Lay out the roads like this: (IMAGE HERE)
there should be 80m distance to the edge of the map from the roads surrounding the complex on each side (10 road lengths)

  • The blueprint group includes three numbered files (labelled ①, ②, and ③), ordered for recommended placement.
  • Blueprint ① contains the first two floors of WTC 1–3 and a small outdoor area linking them to the road. I recommend using the North Tower for your development teams, the South Tower for your service teams, and WTC 3 (the Marriott) for leaders and lead designers, since it already contains ready-to-use, furnished, segregated offices. (IMAGE HERE)
  • Note about the gap west of WTC 1 (see below)
  • Blueprint ② expands the complex with Austin J. Tobin Plaza and the outlines for buildings 4 through 6: (IMAGE HERE)
  • Blueprint ③ finishes off with the first two floors of WTC 7 along with a bridge connection to the plaza.

Once you've placed Blueprint 1, you can move on to the individual floor packs for WTC 1, 2, 3, and 7. WTC 4-6 are provided only as complete buildings. In most playthroughs, you'll likely use only one of the smaller outer buildings, so WTC 6 is already pre-equipped for printing & manufacturing.

Twin Towers
Buildings 1 and 2 can be expanded in three different ways:
  • Individual floors -- recommended for the first third of the building as you expand your company.
  • Full sections -- each includes 13 office floors + 1 skylobby. Make sure to place them in order. WTC 1's third section features the Windows on the World restaurant which this mod is named after.
  • Entire buildings -- complete towers from floor 2 and up, no tinkering needed.

Other buildings
  • WTC 3 (Marriott Hotel) and WTC 7 can also be expanded floor by floor or placed as complete buildings.

Constructing individual floors

(for WTC 1,2: Skylobbies are placed every 13 floors, with the first one to be placed at the 15th floor.)

(how you have to adjust room groups so they dont all get split up)

If you want to place the whole site at once: place it like this: (IMAGE HERE)

The driveway west of Tower 1 doesn't come by default. This is because the roof has to be added in manually by cheating the support requirements like this:

note to self: explain why the mods were used (note about morefloors: it defaults to 20 when creating a new save so you will have to increase it to 58

This project was made as a challenge to see how far modding in Software Inc could be pushed — most notably with moddable windows, of which the Thin Windows now present in the Construction Accessories mod, which were originally created just to make this blueprint possible. It's not intended as a commentary on real-world events.

  • Kenneth, main developer of Software Inc, for bug fixes and adding moddable windows (without which this mod couldn't exist)
  • Greven for posting this screenshot a few years back, which gave me inspiration to make it better with the new tools available now
  • daRedLoCo for being a bad Bindo
  • Nox for being a good Bindo
  • BoldyBuilding for having created a very useful reference[sketchfab.com]
