The end of the gravel wars
15 minutes left until doomsday, will you save the world? Or fail trying?


In a small seaside town known as Illnull, there rests a tradition, a coming of age event where young boys and girls light candles in town square to honour their gods. This is called the candle festival of the gods, a three day celebration, full of festivities.

But amidst all the confetti and candy apples, trouble is brewing. To the shock of the townsfolk, a beam shot out of the ground, tearing a hole in the earth. A botched Merasmus spell has opened the doors of Hell, letting those trapped escape the eternal pit of torture.

The citizens all cower in fear, but an unlikely team of heros emerge... or rather two that is...

The Red and Blu teams learn of a ritual used to seal off the gate and vanquish the lost souls. Only slight issue is that neither team can settle on who will get the credit for saving the world. And thus an all out battle takes place.

Will the Mercs use the candles from the event to perform the ritual to close the gate and stop the souls of the damned from consuming the world? Or will they fail?
And what if... performing that ritual and being the only ones to uphold the true meaning of the festival means divine intervention may bless them as they did so long ago?!

15 minutes left on the clock, choose your fate...



Welcome to Invade CTF Hellsgate







Hellsgate is an Invade Capture the Flag map set in a seaside town. Players collect candles from the truck in the center of the map and bring them to the enemy base. Three captures, you win, simple as that!

Players can fight:
  • On broken structures,
  • Inside dusty houses
  • In slimy sewers
    And
  • In the streets

The map is bound to a 15 minute timer that never increases, only decreases. If neither team forms the ritual circle in time, then the world blows up in a fiery explosion...

If you ever want to see your loved ones again, you better be quick... those ghouls aren't here to play!

Who knew the sound of the end of the world would be so grand.
To sell the mood and the anxious nature of the clock running out this map features a fully custom orchestral music track made by the one and only Polybrow!

When the clock hits 5 minutes left this song amps up the players and makes them feel the pressure on their shoulders...

Outside of a few areas needing a clipping pass (mainly just staircases and a few minor issues such as z-fighting, I really dig what this map tries to do. With just a little extra polish with the soundscape and clipping, I personally think the map would be a really good contender to be put into the game.

(Also, I love the Majora's Mask vibes the whole town gives off.)

That may or may not have been part of the inspiration alongside games like Super Paper Mario lol. I wanted to make something more out there and goofy looking while still retaining a gloomy atmosphere!

The clocktower area and backstory feels like a twist on Majora's mask, which is pretty cool imo.

this map could use a little more work. its laking in ambience and doesnt makes much sense to have a halloween map play during the day. when the final cap is done the spell just...ends.

I love the idea of the Mercs needing to stop a world-ending cataclysm as the story for a Halloween map, and it looks really cool here. However, I can't say I like the concept of the gamemode. It sounds like something that could've very easily just been Player Destruction instead. This also doesn't sound any better than normal CTF, especially with the time limit.
