Description
Want a truly challenging map with hostile wildlife everywhere instead of just hive zones? This is the mod for you!

This mod is a spin-off of the Hostile Life gameplay rule found in the Operator Sylvia mod, and takes inspiration from both it and Nightmare Difficulty in ye olde Doom 1 and 2.

Original mod credit goes to Evelyn0104.

The bulk of the map is a fairly tame and safe place to harvest resources with minimal risk of hostile creatures attacking you unless a hive just happens to be in the line of sight of your survivors' path (which they will ever so foolishly walk into), or you cross paths some grumpy and territorial gujos.

With this game rule enabled, creatures and hives will now continuously spawn across the entire map (up to a certain limit as to not hamper game performance too much) at certain intervals, meaning areas outside of your base will never truly be completely safe. Your survivors will either need to be well armed and armored, accompanied by others, or stay within areas close to your base to remain safe from attacks.

Initial spawns at the beginning of the game will be minimal, so you will be able to traverse the map in relative safety as your base gets established. If you're good about destroying hives as they spawn in the areas you're traversing, then they will remain that way. If not...prepare for danger and a much larger fight later on.

The benefit to this is you'll have access to an additional abundance of insect meat, carbon nantotubes, and/or silicon once you're strong enough. If you're playing Guardians, these insects will be just as dangerous to the robots landing in the area and will actually help to keep your main base safer by weakening or outright destroying them before they attack you.

Will spawn Shreikers on Alba, Desertum, and Sobrius; and Scissorhands on Saltu.

NOTE! You may experience increased slowness if you're playing on older hardware and getting additional huge base attack spawns later in the game. I HIGHLY recommend using the Enemies Level Up and/or Attack Wave Modifier mods to decrease the overall amount of spawns in later timed base attack waves. Max spawns from this mod are capped at 2000, and it will take quite a bit of time to reach that if left unchecked.

Spawn rates and ranges are in a good place IMO after several testing playthroughs. Please provide feedback in the comments!

To do:
  • Incorporate Enemies Level Up evolutions
  • Add non-hive hostiles like Hummingflies, Junos, and scarabis, etc. (WIP)
  • Mixed insect spawn option on all planets.

It's compatible with them as this one only uses vanilla enemies for now, and doesn't alter the periodic base attack wave spawns nor interferes with The Nests Awaken's spawns. I do plan on incorporating Enemies Evolve mobs into it and have had some discussion with Ark Builder on it.

The Nests Awaken is currently still broken unfortunately, but Ark Builder is actively working on fixing it.

If you're seeing Cold Dogs spawn in the world and in attack waves, then Enemies Evolve is working peachy for you. :)

Also, would be cool to see some of the others animals attack theirselves, for exemple the Gujos can attack the nests insects that spaswn, cold dogs too.
I think it would add even more life in the environment

Hey, just started using your mods and it seems amazing. I'm still at year one but I can see the hostiles spawning in areas away from my base, I also think there are more Gujos.
Well, Im actually commenting because I was wondering if your mod was compatible with others like Enemies Evolve or The nest Awaken.
I specially want to know if its compatible with Enemies evolve because it is a mod I discovered recently and as I am still in early game, I don't know if it is not working or if it is a conflict between your mod and this one.
Thanks
And, If there are some others alternatives to those mods that are compatible with your mod, please let me know (In case your mod is indeed not compatible with Enemies Evolve)

Things are looking pretty good right now with ranges and spawn rates. Let me know if you have any feedback.

This is compatible with The Nests Awaken if you want to go really bonkers.
