More Birds - Songbirds

Description
FROM THE 'MORE BIRDS' SERIES OF MODS

Bring songbirds to your colony and hear their melodic voices!
Singing songbirds enhance colony mood with their constant, melodic presence, reducing mental breaks. Though slow to reproduce and poor food sources, these colorful birds thrive in forests and fields. When tamed, they require indoor housing or aviaries due to their ability to fly over walls. While skittish and not prone to nuzzling, their cheerful songs provide a mood buff to nearby colonists.

Songbirds
A 'songbird' generally belongs to the suborder Passeri of perching birds, but is often a title given to a wide range of birds from many classifications known for their calls, songs, and whistles. They range the globe, and can survive in many environments from icy boreal forests to arid deserts to steamy jungles.

Credits
Props to Kestrel's wonderful BIRD UP mods that were my original inspiration. Those mods were picked up by others, consolidated and currently handled by Tyrannidae - check it out here.

Thanks to Taranchuk, Shun The Witch, and Jerry The Cultist for the C# code to handle the mood buff effect to make these songbirds unique and valuable to a colony!

A nod to my Green Cheek Conure, Mouse, for sparking this whole mod-making adventure - RIP buddy, I miss you so much; and to my Black Cap Conure, Penelope Von Peep, for making me want to keep going with these bird mods!

Mod Notes
NOT CE COMPATIBLE. I hate writing code but I asked on the CE Discord for them to write a patch. I'll update this if it happens.
Should be compatible with pretty much anything (let me know any issues so I can do my best to fix).

I highly recommend something like Camera+ to enjoy the colors and sounds of these animals.

CHECK OUT MY WORKSHOP for other bird mods and some cool things like Camouflage armors that gives some awesome functional retextures that actually give your colonists working camo!!

I'm an artist, not a coder
I hire coders for my code work beyond basic XML. Feel free to donate if you want to help me offset those costs, or if you just like my mods. If/when I reach a point where donations equal what I paid for code work, I will remove this link - I'm not trying to make money, just break even.

Nice, as mentioned it did look very birdlikecrazy, but put me off as no other rimcritters had nearly such energy. Could be fun though, if the hippos did a stampede for the joy of it once in a while. :lscientist:Will reimpliment mod.

@Krake flying circles is vanilla behavior that I can't change. I did check the XML file and saw that the chance for them to fly got changed VERY high at some point(dunno when or why I did it) so pushing a quick fix to adjust; hopefully they won't be quite so annoying with constant flapping.

The birds were kinda frenzying. Fluttering around in circle and landing round a small area. Quite birdlike, but also distrakting and maybe CPU intensive? Intended behavior?

Hello!
I think bullhinches aka snowbirds would be such a nice addition for snowy winter.
I can’t find any mods that adds them.

(Only male birds have red feathers)

Thanks for the reply-- and no pressure!! It's your mod, only change what you feel like. I actually just made like a secondary "pen" that was just a fenced garden where my colonists eat instead of the standard pen for my other animals

@Dweebus, the only alternate is that birds can be zoned... so one way or another, they're kept inside an area. But I'll edit the XML files and get an update so they are zoneable instead of pen animals if y'all want. The animations aren't that bad actually, they're only 8 frames; liberal use of paths, free transform, and gradient tool made it reasonable to batch finish them. For all 3 of my bird mods it took I'd say a week, maybe a bit more, to get them all done.

I'd also be curious to know how long it took you to do all those flying graphics. I was so excited when I heard they had flying animals, and then was mortified (for the artists wrists if nothing else) when I learned they had like 50~ frames each

If I may make a suggestion... the birds, or at least blue jays specifically, are apparently pen animals. I feel this is inaccurate as blue jays cannot be contained. (also this is a very good mod, the art style perfectly matches vanilla. Thank you!)

Each species has distinct and accurate song, yes.

Should work just fine with mutliplayer, I'd assume just like any other animal.

I googled "most common songbirds" and picked interesting ones from the results. Added zebra finches because they're popular in the pet trade as a songbird.
