I found being able to use the squad effectively even in the narrow confines of the trenches was a good bit of workmanship, and the difficulty of the zombie types seemed to scale well for the most part.
Custom Units: 3
Units looked fantastic, both the living and the dead. Very grimy, very gritty. The red eyes of the zombies worked fantastically in the dark.
Thumbnail: 1
Thumbnail lets itself down with the meme angle imo, underselling what is a classic military horror experience.
Fun Factor: 2
The map was fun, but it had its frustrating moments, like trying to find where to go whilst an endless horde (or mini zombie) chases you.
Total: 17/22
Excellent level design, really atmospheric and proof that lots does not always equal more. Really sold the idea that I was stuck in some claustrophobic, dark and dreary trenches during a horrifying situation. Hit that "looks like its own game" mark in several places.
Technical Design: 4
Some good stuff here with enemy spawns, the need to unlock doors and highlighting of appropriate keys etc etc but there were also some bugs. Big boss outside the bunker repeatedly respawns a mini zombie every few seconds which made it difficult trying to advance into the bunker with my squad as they kept having to stop to deal with him. Things got a little confusing once inside said bunker, but I figured it out in the end. Overall nice, but a little on the buggy side and I think the biggest sin was the complete lack of ambience to the map. It had great atmosphere but it was one of those rare cases where silence does not lend itself well to the horror aspect.
