After some designers at the Stino Corporation decided there was no future in continuing work on “tank treads,” they began development of a hover tank, designated the ST-8 Kratos.
The first prototype was a complete failure, when its engines where started it refused to lift off the ground.
Prototype 2 was significantly lighter, finally achieving lift and reaching a top speed of 390 kph. However, the weight reduction came at the cost of armor. The turret was replaced with a fixed cannon to eliminate it as a weak point, and two rockets were added to improve fire-on-the-move capability, compensating for the lack of a stabilizer.
While the ST-8 Kratos proved useful in scouting and amphibious assault roles, the design team overlooked one critical flaw, hover tanks already existed in the form of helicopters, and they could do the job better.
