This chamber is an overhaul of a puzzle I originally made over a decade ago! My friend has gotten into the Portal series recently and I wanted to include this puzzle in my (work-in-progress) Beginner Friendly collection for them in order to introduce signage (like respawn and rescue), pistons, portal management like being deliberate with which color shot, and removal , cube climbing , and vantage points (e.g. portal surfaces only landing from the correct angle), before they'd need to know them in other chambers.

Unintended Moves and Intended Replacement
  • Getting lifted to the end by shooting a portal from the laser to the surface behind grating then quickly jumping onto the piston as it starts to extend. This wasn't eliminated from the chamber because trial and error didn't reveal a better arrangement of portal surfaces in the room behind the fizzler than this, and the timing to do this way is so tight I expect it to be clear it's unintended. You're instead supposed to shoot a portal onto the surface behind grating, and make sure the other portal isn't to the laser; then you're able to get on the piston and shoot a portal to the laser to extend it .
  • In revisions prior to 2025-08-14-01, Deactivating the fizzler at the beginning of the puzzle by exploiting the small amount the receptacle is exposed from the wall. This wasn't eliminated from the chamber because it would require blockage that would interfere with antline readability. You're instead supposed to place the reflection cube between the relevant signage (careful not to knock it into the fizzler, sorry) and aim it at the grated surface, walk into the fizzler-protected room, then shoot portals between the two surfaces in there (so the grated one and the one adjacent to the laser emitter). The weird angle works out right to hit the receptacle reliably in my testing. . I'm dissatisfied with this part of the puzzle and tried my best to make it easy to execute but don't know what could work as a replacement .

I'm new to publishing puzzles in the modern era. Hope this is good! I'm open to receiving any criticism cause I'd like this to be a stepping stone to making a more significant puzzle I had in mind.

I've blocked the unintended move and added more signage for the opening move in the newest revision. It unfortunately makes the antlines slightly worse and rest of the puzzle a little more annoying, so I'll need to carefully look through my options of debris or other small objects to use in place of the current obstruction.

@Fuku Yamama I thought further and realized you might have attempted the opening move an unintended way and updated the description to clarify. I can still imagine your criticism being meant toward the intended way too, so sorry if I misunderstood!

Fair enough, sorry it was a bigger issue than I foresaw.
I couldn't manage to get the positioning of the main fizzler and portal surfaces right to make it easier to do and couldn't think up a substitute.

I can see how to do it (without reading the hints) but the angles are so damn finicky I can't be bothered to do it.
