[2025.1] Hardcore noise solution

Description
In the original game, the escort does not pose much of a threat (if you have enough experience in the game). I decided to fix this with this mod to try to make the game more realistic, so that every attack on the convoy is a difficult task.

This mod greatly complicates the game. This mod is for those who have already mastered all the intricacies of the game and want to test their mettle. It will now be more difficult to escape from escorts and attack convoys. For the mod to work correctly, you need to start a new game. Compatibility with other mods that complicate gameplay is not guaranteed.

What exactly does the mod change:
1) enemy difficulty for the three game difficulties (easy, normal, high) is now the same; enemies will always have hard difficulty on any difficulty setting;
2) enemy hydrophone detectability has been changed; enemies can now hear the player's boat as well as they would in real life;
3) ASDIC has been changed, now enemies can reliably find the player's submarine (it is still possible to hide from sonar at the bottom of the sea);
4) The escort's hunting time for the player's boat has been increased (in one of the tests, the escort hunted the boat for 40 hours);
5) There is a chance that the escort ship hunting the boat will stop and wait for the boat to surface in order to catch it off guard.
6) Visual visibility has been added for gas torpedoes.
7) Noise visibility has been added for electric and gas torpedoes. Now the escort can hear torpedoes launched from the boat and raise the alarm before they hit their target. Torpedoing warships is now more difficult;
8) Added a speed change function for single ships and convoys to make interception more difficult.

Now let's take a closer look at some of the features:

Hydrophone detectability (Electric engines)
Gear position
Detection range
Kleine Fahrt voraus (Dead Slow Ahead)
~250-450 meters
Langsame Fahrt voraus (Slow Ahead)
~1000 meters
Halbe Fahrt voraus (Half Ahead)
~2500 meters
GroBe Fahrt voraus (Full Ahead)
~5500 meters
AK voraus (Flank Ahead)
~8000 meters
Kleine Fahrt zuruck (Dead Slow Astern)
~250-450 meters
Langsame Fahrt zuruck (Slow Astern)
~1000 meters
Halbe Fahrt zuruck (Half Astern)
~2000 meters
AK zuruck (Flank Astern)
~6500 meters

Visual detectability for gas torpedoes (type G7a)
Enemy ship
Detection range
Transport (Empire Explorer, sunny day, side of the ship)
~500-750 meters
Transport (Empire Explorer, sunny day, stern)
~300 meters
Transport (Empire Explorer, night, side of the ship)
~100 meters
Destroyer (Tribal, sunny day, side)
~1000 meters
Destroyer (Tribal, sunny day, stern)
~650 meters
Destroyer (Tribal, night, side)
~450 meters

Noise visibility for torpedoes
Torpedo type
Detection range
G7a (Tribal, side)
~1000 meters
G7a (Tribal, torpedo ahead)
~1300 meters
G7e (Tribal, side)
~500-750 meters
G7e (Tribal, torpedo ahead)
~750 meters

Ship and convoy speeds
Convoys and single ships will now randomly change their speed at random intervals. If a ship or convoy has been attacked, after performing zigzag maneuvers, they will reach their maximum possible speed to get away from the dangerous area.

Thanks for the new update. I guess it's not Savegame compatible?
Xryas  [author] 21 hours ago
@Mr.Woof not yet. This will be added in a future update

@Xryas
Thanks!

BTW: does the mod make any changes to how loud different systems (like ventilation) are in the boat?
Xryas  [author] 13 Oct @ 1:23am
@Mr.Woof I can't tell you about the effective direct distance, but I can say for sure that the game takes the boat's depth into account when calculating visual/sonar/hydrophone detection. Simply put, the deeper the boat, the harder it is to detect.

Regarding torpedo detection by military ships. The military's primary torpedo detection tool is a hydrophone. The G7a torpedo, in addition to leaving a trail, also made a lot of noise. Therefore, in a game with a mod, the military will detect a torpedo even on the darkest night. If stealth is important, you should use the G7e. It has no wake and is quieter. If this isn't possible, there are three options:
1) Use the torpedo's speed as an advantage: less travel time --> less time to detect;
2) Use a salvo fire;
3) Time the attack so that the torpedoes pass astern of the escort. From astern, the escort has difficulty hearing the torpedoes.

Hi. Do the detection distances take into account depth? For example if the boat is 150m down and 300m distant, does the game calculate the effective direct distance?

Also why do destroyers detect torpedoes earlier than freighters? Despite the fact that military crew might be better trained and be more vigilant than civilian crews, the higher freebord and crows nest would give freighters a significant height advantage to be able to spot torpedo wakes earlier.

@bduduty my technical consultant [1 UF]Kellermann was responsible for the numbers
Xryas  [author] 24 Sep @ 5:03am
@aquelarrefoxm yes, the weather affects the ability to hear noises
bduduty 18 Sep @ 6:06am
How do you know these are accurate numbers? What source did you use?
aquelarrefox 3 Sep @ 12:27pm
weather degrede it? the close 450/1300 seems a bit extreme, its early war value or its fix along the war?
Xryas  [author] 3 Sep @ 1:23am
@aquelarrefox hydrophone detection distances are given for calm sea (wind - 2kt)
