[1.6] Odyssey Fishing Is Fun By Nebs

Description
Fishing Is Fun!!

Have you ever wondered why fishing in RimWorld doesn't count as recreation?

How can you go fishing for hours and not feel any joy from it??

This is a mod designed for Rimworld, 1.6 and the Odyssey DLC.

This is intended to make the Odyssey DLC’s fishing activity count as recreation and grant a mood buff after a long fishing session.

Features:
  1. Recreation Need Gain: While the pawn is actively fishing, their recreation (joy) need increases steadily (similar to playing chess or other joy activities).
  2. Mood Buff: If the pawn spent at least 3 in-game hours (2,500 ticks) fishing continuously, they receive a +3 "Pleasant Fishing Trip" mood thought lasting 6 hours.
  3. Configurable: You can enable/disable the mood buff or recreation, and you can tweak the buff reward time in the mod settings.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What kind of recreation does the pawn passively receive? Answer: This mod does not introduce a new recreation type. It currently uses the `Meditative` type of recreation (JoyDef). To clarify, this doesn't mean the pawn meditates while fishing, it's just a solitary and peaceful type of recreation, same as stargazing or going on a walk.

It would make sense to tie the work-and-recreation effects to each pawn’s passion level for the corresponding skill.

This mod has me thinking...

If fishing is a typical recreational activity, so it makes sense for it to be so in Rimworld, well... so is hunting. With that being said, the same could also be said for crafting or just about any other job. As such, I have an idea:

What if this mod covered all job types in the game, had settings to enable/disable recreation for them and how much recreation they provide, possibly took passions for relevant skills into account, and was called "Job Recreation" or "Recreational Work"?

If anything, I think the fact that fishing is the ONLY job to be recreation makes less sense than no jobs (including fishing) to be recreational.""

I agree. I like this idea. But some people do not find crafting fun and is more of a job. What if some tasks raised their recreation if they had an aligned personality trait that it was based off of.

I enjoy this mod, but is there any way to make a catch and release style fishing to not impact fish population?

@Dr. Wicked Not currently, but I think that is a great suggestion! I'll add it to the roadmap.

Is there a way to make pawns just go fishing for recreation even when not assigned to the work type?

Wonderful. Thank you so much

This is amazing, with the somewhat expected 'downside' (upside for some?) that pretty much any pawn set to hunt/fish turn into a middle aged dad who never does anything but sit by the waterside with his rod in his hands.
