Description
About this mod
This mod is based off the brilliant book series by the same name and its focus in overhauling the zombies AI & interactions with the player to match that universe. In Slow Burn you are infected just like all of the other Infected but your temperature never quite got high enough to cook your brain. you can walk amongst the other infected un-noticed if you are careful.

How To Play
Use the custom moodle that updates you with your current suspicion level to figure out how to survive amongst the infected. be careful running or making too much noise.

CUSTOM PROFESSION: INFECTED SURVIVOR

Infected Survivor
Starting Stats:
- Sneaking +2
- Lightfooted +2
- Nimble +2
- Night Vision trait
- Bandaged bite wound (left forearm)

Game-play Mechanics:
Zombies ignore you while hidden, but combat, noise, or "human" behaviour raises suspicion. Lose your cover, and you're hunted like any survivor.


FEATURES
  • Play as an infected survivor (immune to zombie bites)
  • Dynamic suspicion system — zombies ignore you until your cover’s blown
  • Indoor/outdoor awareness
  • Line-of-sight detection — hide behind objects and walls
  • 5 stealth moodles track cover status
  • Environmental influence — weather, time, and behavior matter
  • Zombies wake and hunt at high suspicion
  • Whisper mechanic — risk waking nearby infected
  • Smart Ones: 1% chance to detect you even while hidden
  • DEVOUR: press Z while crouched over a body to devour it to remove all suspicion with some drawbacks
  • GUTS: press g over a body to cover yourself in guts to help reduce suspicion gain at the cost of increased fever gain and stress
  • FEVER: a toggle able feature for a constant fever the player must fight in order to not turn into a mindless infected


SUSPICION LEVELS
  • HIDDEN (0–24): Perfect mimicry — completely ignored
  • SUSPICIOUS (25–49): Glances
  • EXPOSED (50–74): Circling you — cover slipping
  • HUNTED (75–89): They converge within 30 tiles
  • BLOWN (90–100): Total aggression within 70 tiles

Suspicion decays when crouched in solitude, especially indoors. Survive the aftermath, and regain your cover.

DEBUG UI
Press tab to enable the debug information for the mod to help track suspicion. this is for people prepared to provide feeedback.

WORK IN PROGRESS
  • Add more effects to the devour mechanic, Stress & Hunger reduction etc
  • Replace animation base for devour
  • Add in zombie walking animations to replace crouching/sneaking
  • Guts mechanic to lather yourself up at any body with blood and guts to blend in to the infected more (if washed off in raid you are more suspicions for a time) /w potential balancing drawbacks
  • Additional sandbox options for all mechanics in the mod.
  • add horde reaction back into game for car/house alarms - reworking the zombie ai with the suspicion engine has left some gaps in what they react to. I need to filter out these sounds/events and add them to the suspicion engine.
  • Inline with above i have more player interactions that need adding to the suspicion engine, things like bandaging, opening the map, doors ect that i am working on re-adding. some will come when events plus api is updated for 42 so some will have to wait for that.

is there a way to add the slow burn trait after a certain stage of infection? Like you start off normal and once you get infected there's a chance to get the Slow Burn infection instead? Maybe compatibility with the Antibodies mod so that if you survive the initial fever there's still consequence?

Just wanted to let you know that when you die and make a new character in the same world, you cant choose infected profession again. I think instead of a profession it should just be, if the mod is enabled, then the infected mode should be active so that you can choose a profession and also be infected (or maybe make it a trait instead of profession if you want it to be an opt in thing for servers)

Update 13
- vehicle suspicion should be fixed now
- standing still will not increase suspicion gain
- added in support for ALT sprinting gaining suspicion
- fixed GUTS error
- fever stats added to TAB debug UI
- combat stance, right click hold no longer causes suspicion gain (commonly used to look around)
- reworked sandbox settings to act as integer for more modular configuration

yeah im not surprised with that one to be honest. the word done to make the zeds react the way they do is rather intrusive.
