Northern Fronts Cold War

Description
Northern Fronts Cold War, developed by the Northern Fronts team, is a detailed and immersive representation of the Finnish Defence Forces during the final years of the Cold War for ARMA 3.


Features in version 1.0.0:

- Finnish factions from both early and late 1980s with winter and summer variants
- Units include: infantry, jaegers, border guards, paratroopers, coastal jaegers, peacekeepers, local forces, sentry forces, military police, and repulse units.
- Mostly historically accurate squad layouts
- WW2-era weapons, RK 62 rifles, KK 62 LMGs, various AT launchers and much more
- WW2 legacy artillery & static weapons
- SA-150 "Masi" truck
- 95 S 58-61 "Musti" recoilless rifle
- 4 webbing types and hundreds of gear combinations

Please note: This is a work-in-progress release. Development was delayed due to real-life circumstances, and some features are still in development. Content updates and improvements will continue over time.


SOFT COMPABILITY

The mod includes soft compability files. This means if you load NFCW with the said mod or CDLC, the Finnish faction will get supplemented with various assets. We recommend using them for full experiences. These are the following at the moment:

- Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany (T-54, PT-76, vehicles, small arms, mortars & static weapons)
- Military Aviation (BAE Hawk & Fouga Magister)

There is more to come on this field! We're also looking for people whom are willing to make retextures for these soft compability mods.

Hello. There is a several issues with vehicles. All of them have broken pieces of stowage, BTRs and T-55s alike. Sisu Masu does not have a damage model - bullets and missiles flies trough it like it is not here. Lahti is not assembable, Musti is not towable and i don't know how to properly turn it around. Might be ACE issue out of all things but needs some investigation.

Are you guys going to add any Finnish voice lines to the faction like the (CUP) Finnish Defence Forces?

I wouldn't have any problems do to the fact the CUP Finnish Defence Forces adds the voice lines to the NFCW but the it interferes with CUPs loadouts.

Could it be done?

Hey great mod very good quality stuff, but I've found some couple of issues.
For example there are no inventory icon pictures for pistols except for lahti. If player attaches bayonet to RK-62 then also inventory icon disappears for all variations. Aside from that I've realised if an AI is holding RK-62 and when they flinch from shooting (both in ace and WBK death animations) their arms go wild

As said it is my mod and I'd like to strive for accuracy. M62 uniforms were known for huge variety of colors and pants not always matching the trousers. That is iconic for Finnish M62's. I want to represent that. And that is to also have flavour in the ingame squads and units.

Character folder is only 1/7 of the mod's size. For example there is "just" 33 jacket textures with all different patterns (even placement, not just color) spread to use along all of the m62 uniforms.

Secondly. Ranks do not add any extra textures since the ranks are modeled, not textured and there is the same texture set used for all ranks. Mostly what is changing is the model or the specific number of M62 texture from the 33 trousers and 33 jackets.

Insignia system would not work since the ranks wouldn't be 3D. Furthermore it will become a problem when I would like to have branch insignias using the insignia system.

Caselius It's just unecessary to have 20 versions of each uniform just for a little change In color and rank symbols.
Couldn't there be a way to set the rank symbols on the neck to appear using the arma 3 insignia system? I think It would declutter the arsenal immensely.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on your mod, It's great, but I don't want to see this mod become too heavy and cluttered like some arma mods are. (3cb factions Is an example of this)

That being said, It Is your work, so do whatever you feel It's best.
