Historically Accurate Normalized European Music

This mod adds over 100 historically accurate, volume-balanced European pieces to Victoria 3, evolving with the in-game year for maximum immersion.

Historically Accurate

Whenever you hear a song from this soundtrack, it will have been published before your game's current date. After a song's publishing date, it will continue to be active for roughly 10 years.

You'll hear the soundscape evolve over time, experience
- The early romantic period of the 1830s
- The fervor of the 1840s and the age of revolutions
- The nationalism of the 1850s
- The golden age of Opera in the 1860s
- The start of impressionism in the 1890s
- The neoclassical revival and modernism of the 1920s

If you like Mahler, sorry but you'll have to wait until 1898 before you can hear him!

In order to make sure there's always a supple selection of songs available to be played, there are at least 10 unique songs in each decade.

Normalized

Volume normalization is the process of shifting the volume of a song such that the loudest part and the quietest part of the song are within a certain range of each other. In other words, the song will not blow your ears out or be too quiet to hear.

When you volume normalize across an entire soundtrack, you make sure that all the songs are relatively as loud as each other so that the user doesn't need to constantly fiddle with the volume level each time a new song comes on. Spotify, YouTube, television stations, all media serving platforms normalize their shows/movies/songs so that you don't always need to be changing the volume.

Many of the soundtracks I found available for Vicky 3 in the workshop aren't volume normalized. I find myself always needing to change the volume. One song at 10%, the next at 80%, and sometimes I'd forget the volume slider is at 10% and go an hour in silence. This annoyance is the entire reason I decided to make my own music mod. Play the game, not with the volume slider.

Each song has been volume normalized to a level that keeps the dynamic crescendos at play without needing you to baby the volume slider to protect your ears.

European Music

Every song that has been picked has been made by a European composer and was listened to by Europeans in the Victoria era.

Other Details
Now that I've justified the acronym, here's some other things to know.

Instrumental / voice separation
Think opera is cringe? Don't want distractions? Open the music player and disable the vocal soundtrack, leaving you only with the instrumentals!

Suggestions welcome!
This is a hand-curated playlist but I'm very open to suggestions! In order to hit the 10 songs per decade goal I had to control myself, in some decades, to not add too many songs as I needed to spread my energy evenly throughout the Victoria 3 time period. Have I missed a really important piece? Maybe your favorite? Leave a comment below and if there are enough comments suggesting a particular song, I'll see about adding it.

HATE a song? Low sound quality? Mod author with ♥♥♥♥ taste? Again, leave a comment and if there are enough complaints about a song I'll see about removing it.

Spanning the decades, you will hear the music of 47 different composers. Many big names and a few who's fame is now in the past.

the recording for una furtiva lagrima is from Matthew Polenzani

Unfortunately when the music is compressed into the bank file it can't be found in the filesystem like an .mp3 but there are guides online on how to decode a .bank file

Can you display the source file mp3 of the song, I can't find the music file in the local file, I really like the version in it, but I can't find this version of the music on the Internet, and I don't have the taste and sound quality of this version

normalization is very subjective. Difference in volume is an important component of music from this time period, so I try to preserve as much of this dynamic as possible when I normalized it. It's okay if parts of the music are too quiet. If one part is too loud, turn it down until that part is bearable, and the rest should fall into place.

I still get super loud parts of the music
